This is kinda a dumb example because when a poster from Washington posts about playing online poker, it's not readily visible to anyone reading it that he is from Washington. The difference is, one is a person openly talking about doing something that is readily identifiable as being illegal and the other is way more discrete.

For me, it's not so much the moral issue of the drugs that makes these threads suck. I pretty much hate most of the 2p2-isms that pick up and then have like 1000 imitators doing it. For me, a volcano could be a device that makes really good strawberry milkshakes... it still gets [censored] old after the 25th post about it.

It's all common sense, people... If it's a poker related thread that mentions drugs, nobody's gonna care / mind.

If it's a pointless, meaningless thread that basically says "I'm so stoned I wanna wear an orange helmet and eat an eight pound hamburger", it doesn't add anything to the forum. More than that, there are specific forums meant for these pointless, meaningless threads. These are the ones that have to stop...

However, you should understand that when you make posts that say to the effect of "i won't be allowing this from now on" your talking to a lot of guys who will be quick to mock an authoritarian voice, especially since a lot of us have bailed on school/work to do something where we have to listen to nobody.

Perhaps a tone of "hey guys this and that is clogging up the forums, do you mind keeping etc to a minimum?" would be more effective?

While you might be right to some extent the people that a ton of drug talk puts off way outweighs the increased sense of community that some people who enjoy drugs get from posting. This is a tournament forum, not a drug forum. There are drug forums on the internet, there are forums on this site like bbv, oot, etc that are much more general and lenient about such things. These forums won't be.

As for the locking of threads. It wasn't one thread that made that happen. It was the fact that everyday some nonsense post about someone going to Wendy's popped up. If you have a great story to tell your friends, tell you friends. If its really good then go ahead and post it here, but MTT and MTTc and HSMTT doesn't need to hear everytime you get high and eat fast food or say something silly.
