Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to this forum although I have played poker for about 3 years. 2 years not very seriously and this year I'm trying to take it a lot more seriously.

I have HoH 1 and 2, Killer Online Poker 2, and Super System. All of which I intend to re-read in the next 2 months. I also am running PokerTracker.

My real question is how most of the successful players here managed their bankrolls. For example, what limits justify the BR you have and what SnGs can you play simult. and also what type of tourneys.

In the past, I've played over my head (I think), playing NL$25 with a short BR, under $200 on FT. I ran it up to $400 then played NL$100 and ran it up to $900. I lost a big chunk of it after some variance and have about $100 on Stars I am playing tight with and grinding at NL$10 6-Max.

So, my real question is with a BR of about $200, what limits can / should I play? What buy-in tourneys and SnGs can I play? Should I just focus on cash games with that small of a BR? I am going to deposit $200 onto FT.

I'm pretty sure that's a sufficient BR for NL$10...20 buyins. NL$25 is probably too big of a jump? I'm thinking no bigger than $5 SnGs and tourneys, but that might be too high as well?

I would like to hear from the guys on here who have been and who are successful starting from this small of a BR and grinding it up. Not taking those big shots like I did.

20 BI minimum for any level unless you've already raped it, then play with however BI you feel comfortable with.

$200 is just enough for NL10, go to NL25 when you have $500

for sng's its 50 buy-ins and for mtts its 100 buy-ins

and for cash games: if you stick to the 20buy in rule you're on the safe side but i think you can move to NL25 with 300$ as you have already some experience with it. if you drop down to 200$ move down to NL10 again

Welcome to the forums. I'm in about the same boat myself. I've been playing for about 2 years, mostly just as a part-time hobby because I own my own buisness. (I was playing 25/NL, usually 4 tabling, making between $500-$1000/month including rakeback) However, I've decided that if I'm going to play, I might as well start to take it more seriously. That being said, here's my plan:

Starting Bankroll: $250
Starting Tables: $25/NL (I know it's only 10 buy-ins, but I'm VERY comfortable at these tables and know that I can beat them because I've been doing it for the last couple years)

1: Play 1 table 25/NL until BR reaches $400
2: Play 2 tables 25/NL until BR reaches $1000
3: Play 1 table 50/NL until BR reaches $1300
4: Play 2 tables 50/NL until BR reaches $2000
5: Play 1 table 100/NL until BR reaches $2750
6: Play 2 tables 100/NL until BR reaches $4000
7: Play 1 table 200/NL until BR reaches $5000
8: Play 2 tables 200/NL the rest of the way

Having watched a bunch of my friends who play, 200/NL seems like the last "easy" level before the game turns a lot tougher. Using this "road-map", I feel like I have a lot of mini-goals, which is important. If my BR drops into the lower range, it's not as big of a deal because I'm either going from 1 higher table to 2 lower tables, or I'm going from 2 tables to 1 table. Neither of which really feels like moving down, as you're either putting the same amount of money in play, or you're just concentrating on one table.

Not to thread-jack your thread, OP, but does anybody have any suggestions or ideas about my plan? I'm planning on including rakeback directly into my bankroll. Also, what do you think about adding money from your live games into your online BR? I play a 4-40 spread game up at the casino. What % (if any) should I be dedicating to my BR? Should I move up only if I have a certain BB/100 stat? If so, what is it?

YoungKR, read sticky post under microstakes ( essential selection on uNL)could be helpfull about bankroll etc. I think it's also about how much money you wanna spend. If you don't have a problem with depositing another 200$ or so, you can try 25NL with 200$. But I would suggest this only for getting started building a bankroll. I started playing 50NL with a BR of $800, and if I dropped down to $500, I would go back to 25NL. But read the 'sticky post', lot of info in there.

TomVeil, move up when your about 4+BB/100 over at least 20k hands at the level you're playing. Take shots at first, make it half/ half ( for ex.: 2 tables 25NL, 2 tables 50NL), trying to get a feeling for the limits. About adding money to your online BR, why not? you can play tons of more hands.
