BTW, there are many hotels that soften their water, like in vegas. This is because if they didn't, their sheets and linens wouldn't last very long at all. The hard water really breaks them down in the dryer. Going from 25 gpg of hardness down to 0 will improve the taste of the water some. However, what will happen is the hardness minerals are replaced with sodium or pottasium, depending on what their using in the softnener. So, the TDS is not lower, actually, it normally goes higher. So, the water is still nothing like what it could be through Reverse osmosis. Softnened water normally has what I describe as a "sweet" taste.

A half liter bottle of water is around $3 in Norway. Some are more, some a bit less. We have really good tap water quality most places, but we still buy it.

One thing I hear often when we're buying something to drink and I berate someone for paying the same for a bottle of water that I pay for a bottle of soda, is that at least they get a better deal than I do.

People who are saying that there is no noticable difference between tap water and bottled water are either poor, naive, or both.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just because you notice that there's a difference doesn't mean you prefer one to the other. It's water, as long as it's wet and doesn't taste like complete ass I'm fine with it.

I stand uncorrected.

This has been a pet peeve of mine for a while, but today I was reading this editorial and I was reminded at how utterly ridiculous it is to pay $1/bottle or whatever for bottled water. The reason why is because there is no legitimate difference between bottled water and tap water

Hello Iron, I am prepared to bet you any amount you like that I can tell the difference between Evian and tap water. I will also tell the difference between Evian and most other types of bottled water.

It's like beer: If you do not drink it, you do not know the difference between them. The taste tests that say that one thing tastes the same as another are worthless, because they do not look at people who already drink mineral water.

I don't drink it because I think it is better for me, I drink it because I prefer the taste.

I routinely drink both, and no, you cant tell the difference here. It may be different where you are, but I will take that bet if we use water out of my tap. for any amount

also:

evian spelled backwards.

Lol this thread is a joke.. tapwater obviously tastes horribly bad in many areas so the advantages of not only having good tasting water but also in a bottle that you can bring places is something that a lot of people like.

Some people don't mind spending a few cents on this convenience because the small price is well worth it to them, theres a lot of worse things you can "waste" your money on.
