[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Lolololol. I hope you understand that the above is completely different from the situation at hand. It's another story if the father was paying extra for the song and dance routine. [/ QUOTE ] How exactly is this different? He was not paying extra for blueberry pie in stead of banana splits. They are the same price. [/ QUOTE ] did the dad pay the restaurant to sing happy birthday? you cant be this stupid. [/ QUOTE ] they only decided to eat there because they were told that the waiters would sing the song. [/ QUOTE ] okay, by that logic they shouldnt have paid for dinner, and just walked out. sounds reasonable. [/ QUOTE ] Completely agree that that's what they should have done. EDIT: It's not just that they didn't deliver, but that they didn't even give the guy warning or try to be nice about it. It would be different if the owner or hostess or someone had come over at some point before and talked to the guy and told him "I'm sorry, we made a mistake when we said we would sing happy birthday, our policy has changed, etc." But to just not follow through on what you said and act like the guy isn't supposed to notice is beyond douche. |

LOL. I can't tell if you're joking about this or are just a very bitter person. [/ QUOTE ] A little of both. The harsh language about children was a joke, but taking waiters off the floor bothers me because it seems to always come up when I need my waitress to fill my drink or bring me something or whatever. On a few occasions I have had food arrive lukewarm because it was sitting out while the waitress attended to someone's birthday. [ QUOTE ] It's not like this is a rare occurrence, I would estimate that I have to deal with it at least 60% of the time I eat out and that doesn't include nights where they have 2+ birthdays in the restaurant. [ QUOTE ] Eat at Chuck E. Cheese less often. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Lol. When I go out it is very rarely a child's birthday, but the majority of the time some 25-35 year old woman is celebrating her bday and having the restaurant sing to her. |

For people who are supposedly good at a mental skill game, there is some really impaired logic and lousy information processing going on in this thread.

Hudge props to the restaurant for taking a stand against the birthday song. Ruins my evening every time. That said, the hostess shouldn't have misrepresented your dining experience to you. So pretty douchey overall. [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. It's fine to take a stand, but make sure all of your employees know that you have changed the policy so that you avoid scenes like what is described in the OP. And I [censored] hate restaurants that sing "Happy Birthday", too. There's a couple of places that I go to regularly due partly to fact because I know that they don't sing "Happy Birthday" to their customers. |

Of course I see that there are differences between these situations, but both are him buying/ordering something and getting something else. [/ QUOTE ] Please, just stop. You have the worst case ever here. I am with the tell your spoiled kid that [censored] happens camp. It really bothers me when my waiter/waitress sings goes to sing some annoying song when I need a refill. The hostess was wrong, sorry, but next time don't hold onto the word of a 16 year old who makes $5.15 an hour. |

I don't think that the hostess is qualified to enter into an agreement on behalf of the establishment.
If I were the owner I would have said "Oh my hostess told you we sing happy birthday here?" Dad: Yes Me: One moment please *Brings hostess over* Me: Did you tell this man that we would sing his child happy birthday? Host: Yes Me: You're fired. We'll mail you your check. |

As manager, I would make the hostess sing a capella for not knowing policy. Then remind her at the end of her shift that we don't do singing.

[ QUOTE ]
dessert = money, singing happy birthday = nothing of any monetary value. [/ QUOTE ] The waiters' time is nothing of any monetary value? I suppose you don't tip then. |
