Legally you are most likely screwed. The fine print somewhere (on the door?) says the safe is insured for only $750 and that is all the hotel is responsible for. If you did not know this, thats your fault.

Your only chance is the 'shame on them for treating customers like this' angle. Good luck with that.

Also, to everyone saying "just get a box in the cage," I remember last year somebody who got a box in the amazon cage, put like 40k in it, and came back a few days later and the box was completely empty. Apparently the boneheads had given him the keys to an empty box and given some other guy the keys to his. Supposedly it was a huge hassle to resolve, but the guy eventually got into his box, which had sat untouched.

Why are you trying to give the Rio an easy way out of this?

You say the 32k is just principal, yet your willing to let
it all go under the media's radar, if they just pay you back?

That kind of pisses me off...Your dont even care about
the root of the problem (casino room security). If you
did you'd be spending all day doing interviews exposing
this widespread problem, that we as casino patrons will
have to deal with for the foreseeable future.

Here is what I want to know:

How did they get into the room? I'm pretty sure the Rio uses the electronic key cards, and they can see exactly what key opened the door and at what time.

You made no mention of how the "thief" got into your room.

If there are no cameras anywhere in that hallway, is it conceivable that you (or a friend) actually took the money, made it look like a robbery, and now you're trying to get Harrah's to pay you 32K?

The fact that you're so willing to donate half to charity makes me wonder if this is a real possiblity.

Don't give legal advice when you have no idea what you're talking about. The disclaimer will only hold up if a court finds that it was reasonable to expect the guest to read it before using the safe. Since it was nowhere near the safe, I don't think a jury/judge will be buying that argument.
