Teddy,
I can certainly understand why you would want your GF to get in shape via lifting..... But why the [censored] do you care about her sister???? I don't really see the benefit in arguing this point with someone who sounds very ignorant and closed minded on this (thanks to Cosmo/pop culture in general); especially when their fitness isn't of much benefit to you (unlike your GF's). |

thx - i should mention that i only get "one shot" at this, and we're dealing with a typical bitchy female w/ a short attention span. In other words, the ideal article will be a print article (not an audio interview) that isn't too long, and has some basic science or something, but nothing too high-level. it's really a shame what the 80s aerobic fad did to the mindset of today's 18 - 35 yr old women. [/ QUOTE ] You shoulda seen how fat and soft they were in the 70's.... Needless to say, aerobics were a great thing. |

[/ QUOTE ] Modeling, my friend, as in role-modeling. If everyone around you is skinny and looks great, it seems much more natural to take care of yourself. If everyone around you doesn't give a damn and shows it, it becomes very hard to keep giving a damn and showing it. And if your own family gives up on staying in shape, then you get to use the excuse that it's just your genetic destiny. Nasty side-effect of bad role models: They keep trying to stuff you with snacks and food "presents" that you feel obligated to take whose real purpose is to make you stop looking so much better than they do. I've seen this work dozens of times in office work FTW. Girl comes in skinny and within two months has gained a permanent 15 pounds from all the fatties stopping by her desk having a "social" snack session with her. The really social part is making her not a social threat any more by making her look no better than you do. Ouch! |

^^^^^^more or less what he said
but basically this relationship w/ the GF is long distance, and i've finally worked thru her muscle phobias and have her excited about lifting weights...and she wants a workout buddy when i'm out of town. her sister's staying w/ her for the summer, but thinks she'll turn into arnold if she so much as looks at a dumbell that isn't made of pink rubber. So i need to smack some sense into her from 500 miles away. |

So, now, let's say you get her convinced, what workout are you going to recommend?
