good taste Pete H. Don't know how I forgot SODOM. I'll have to check out a few of those bands I'm not familiar with. Other random good bands that haven't been mentioned (not thrash):

Hammerfall
Sabaton
Exhumed
Defleshed
Cattle Decapitation
Napalm Death
Hammers of Misfortune
Immortal Avenger
Pentagram

I'm also really into old NWOBHM bands such as
Witchfinder General
Angel Witch
Saxon
Mythra
Satan
Tank (features one of the motorhead dudes)
Raven (first few albums only)

Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere by Meshuggah are amazing albums. Contradictions Collapse is also pretty good.

Didn't like Nothing and haven't even tried Catch 33.

Some quality technical death metal bands include Cynic, Atheist, Pestilence and later works of Death. Also unknown band called Neglected Fields from Latvia deserves to be mentioned here.

I'll go more detail about Pestilence as they never got the recognition they deserved.

They actully progressed for every album.

Debut album Malleus Maleficarum is basicly thrash, but for the followup Consuming Impulse they went into death metal direction.

Out Of The Body

I guess only the third album: Testimony Of The Ancients qualifies as tech death. This is my favourite Pestilence release. Tony Choy's (Cynic, Atheist) bass work for this album was amazing.

Land Of Tears

Last album: Spheres was also technical, but it's very jazzy and I don't like it as much as the other releases.

Overall they were amazing band and those who doesn't own any Pestilence CDs should get the Consuming/Testimony double pack re-release.

No he's not. Metallica really does suck. They were a great band 20 years ago though.

This is the link for the official Finnish album chart:

http://www.yle.fi/lista/listat/albumit.php

Current week (22/2007) is hilarious (probably absurd for most of you):

1. Sonata Arctica - Unia
2. Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain
3. Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight

6. Metallica - Metallica
7. Metallica - Master of Puppets
8. Metallica - ...And justice for all
9. Metallica - Ride the Lightning

12. Metallica - Kill 'em all
15. Megadeth - United Abominations
17. Deathchain - Cult Of Death
19. Paradise Lost - In Requiem
21. Metallica - Garage inc.

32. Metallica - S&M
33. Metallica - St Anger
35. Rush - Snakes And Arrows
38. Metallica - Reload
39. Metallica - Load

If there's a god, he/she/it is a Finn.
