Footwear is the biggest change in my summer wardrobe. Since i live in a beach town in CA i never really wear pants when not at work. (i own 1 pair of jeans and 3 pairs of slacks and like 50 pairs of shorts). On saturday i went out to a surf shop and bought the following 2 pieces of footwear for epic summer days.

Reef Classic Low. nice. leather. comfortable. also the added bonus of not wearing rainbows and looking like im from LA.

DVS Francisco. Nice slippers for when you dont wanna bother with socks. Nice for walking around the cliffs or hanging around at a bbq.

Hey I just wanted to throw out there for anyone looking for t-shirts that both Threadless.com and Turntablelab.com are having memorial day sales. Threadless is cheap as can be right now and theyre rolling out a lot of sweet designs that are selling out quickly.

So many sick awesome shirts for $10 on threadless, and all the mens M/L are sold out ><

i don't wear short sleeve shirts that are button down - i have a bunch of them, but every time i put them on i think they look dumb.

[/ QUOTE ]

My friends and I consistently make fun of guys who wear button down short-sleeved shirts. Particularly if they are plaid.

[/ QUOTE ]

so what do you think guys should wear instead?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think that if you're looking for something short-sleeved, you need to go with a polo- or golf-shirt. If the occasion calls for something more dressy, then you've got to go with a long-sleeved button down.

This may be a regional thing; as I said, though, guys who wear short-sleeved button downs are major dweebs around here. <shrug>

I agree almost 100%. Wear a long sleeve button down with the sleeves rolled up, it looks a million times better.

How bad is it that my summer shopping consists of about 1 hour at old navy each may? Do you guys shop around online and read clothing forums and stuff?

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm interested in looking better so I've started paying more attention to people that dress well and have been reading about traditional style advice. I've also started buying more stuff online, they make it real easy with free shipping both ways and deals/discounts...

Where?

I'm pretty religous about AA for solid t-shirts but I want to hear more about this linen thing dave.

[/ QUOTE ]

Check out Banana Republic or Brooks. They both have a selection of linen shirts every spring/summer. Linen is the best for hot weather. It's exceptionally light and breathable and looks good with shorts or jeans. Once you get some you'll never go back to t-shirts which, especially in NY, seem far too warm IMO.

[/ QUOTE ]

You also may want to try Zara - Zara was described by Louis Vuitton fashion director Daniel Piette as "possibly the most innovative and devastating retailer in the world". Zara has also been described as a "Spanish success story" by CNN.[2]

I'm not him but you can try magazines like GQ/Details.
On the web
men.style.com is good.
and thesartorialist.com is a great blog of a guy taking photos of people on the street who dress well (mainly NY, but he travels to Europe every now and then)
