I think the key difference with corporate criminals is that they could be put away for life. There's a whole different upper-limit to the punishment... one that doesn't have to do with the risk involved.

[/ QUOTE ]

We pretty much agree on everything. This all shows that the punishment is too light, but it is hard to see what the sites can do in addition to seize all funds and ban the player. My WSOP-suggestion seems to be dead, but does anyone have any other suggestion?

N: I believe the vast majority of people in this thread are disappointed and relatively outraged at the fact that Stars has not taken a more proactive position on this issue. Ackblheh has made some very good points regarding that.

Wayfare: The vast majority of people I know who play poker choose to not do many, many things that would make them more money. Some are outright cheating, others are borderline. Extend this to personal and work life, and the temptation to break some rules in the name of making more money is presented to many of us all the time. My experience is that the vast majority of people do not take advantages of these situations to pocket some extra money. And this includes people who need the money far more than young online poker players.

MLG. "Ridiculous." Yes. Very good point regarding ZJ's primary account being the one that happened to do well in the tournaments. Perhaps a lucky coincidence for him that that account of the six ended up being the one with a big stack. Or perhaps not.

All you had to do was click the PartyPoker icon on your desktop very rapidly. If you did that, multiple clients would open up.

[/ QUOTE ]
I tried doing this and it didn't work. Has anyone been able to get Party to open multiple times?

[/ QUOTE ]

This used to work. I knew that dataminers used it to open multiple party screens for datamining purposes. I didn't know you could use it to actually log on more than one account. It doesn't work in the new version however.

You can simultaneously say "what you did is wrong" and admit "wow I probably would have done the same thing."

You can - I can't.

i think the murky legal standing of these poker sites pretty much ties their hands as far as additional measures go. if they were deemed legal to operate in the US, mulit-accounters would potentially be in for a whole new world of hurt (e.g. fraud charges).

I cant belive this why is noone agreeing with me that this is partly the Partys fault, its obvious they can stop this by simple changes in their software. Yet I seem to be the only one thinking that its ulgy against the honest player that they dont

[/ QUOTE ]

It isn't as simple as you think. A hundred users on the same college campus can share the same IP. In the case of AOL users, an entire region of users can share the same external IP via a bridgehead, at least from Party's monitoring perspective.

In case you didn't know, AOL is the biggest ISP in the US, and alot of users from AOL and Colleges makes up a significant portion of gamboolers. Limiting whole aspects of these users to 1 entry to a MTT by IP is not feasible, thus, they enforce it via software measures on cash games and STT, but not MTTs.

And just because you are allowed to do it without the software stopping you is not an excuse to blame it on Party.

It can be done, sure, but it is far more complex and would involve alot of human interaction and isn't a simple switch they could flip to feasibly enforce it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am not completely computer savvy, but the issue here, but aren't there other ways of detecting that someone is not only playing from the same IP on multiple accounts, but the same physical machine?

Just in case anyone is interested it is exceptionally easy to mask your IP - so the whole point about poker sites tracking such things is a mute issue.

In case anyone asks how to do it I wont be answering for the obvious reasons.

one of my pet peeves. use "moot" instead of "mute" point.
