Why does that cartograph of yours blow up states entirely blue that were in fact very closely divided and in many cases only tipped to the blue side because of one or several large cities? Seems like a mischaracterization of at least several of the states as a whole.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess people in cities don't count? Are you trying to speak some sort of code that the black vote shouldn't count?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, he's just saying that that 10 square miles of empty fields in Oklahoma with a population of roughly 0 zero is just as representative of the political climate in the US as a 10 square mile section of a densely populated city with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people in it.

I don't know, probably for the same reason your map colors states with very close counts entirely red. Why would whether or not the votes came from "one or several large cities" matter? (Not trying to be confrontational, but I'm not sure what you're getting at here.)

I included the source of the map, read it for yourself if you have any questions as to its methodology. (I did.)

FWIW the 2004 presidential election had the smallest percentage margin of victory--2.5%--of any sitting president ever. (Wikipedia page on the 2004 presidential election)

Coming from a family of Marines I will probably end up doing my time.

I will bet anyone $10,000 to the charity of their choice against their $5,000 to a charity of my choice that Riddick does not join the Marines *and complete basic training* within the next three years.

"Quite the opposite. Our Marine/Recon snipers in Fallujah have the luxury of taking the pot shots. It is more of a final moment for the insurgents."

That final moment has been going on a damn long time now. Hurray for turning corners!

If you really care, then prove it or else stop disgracing fallen troops by politicizing their suffering

[/ QUOTE ]

This sort of nonsense makes me sick, Bush has been chanting like a pom-pom girl for the past 5 years, spouting out his rhetoric, all with the sole purpose of making this complete waste of life acceptable to decent people. If you speak out about it, if you dare count the numbers of killed and wounded, then you are a sick minded person who uses other peoples suffering to politicize, what is already a [censored] political issue, you can't be a patriot, patriots love war.

This is nothing more than an underhanded way of avoiding a debate you cannot hope to win.

This kind of argument is sickening. I actually believe it is YOU who is disgracing fallen troops by trying to stifle reasonable discussion about the war.

No one is trying to underplay the great job the armed forces do in extremely difficult circumstances. However, that has nothing whatsoever to do with a view of the administration which took us into the war.

You have been fed the line that arguing against the war is anti the troops in Iraq. These two viewpoints are not mutually exclusive. One can (obviously!) support the troops and yet be vehomently against the war.

....twin, FWIW....

The ability (or lack of it) for many to make the distinction that you've noted is not new.

We haven't even come close to the divisiveness that this issue caused during the Vietnam War era in the US.

It's truly sad how many people see things in such a 'black & white' manner.

....My country, right or wrong.

....Love it or leave it.

....You're either with me or against me.

All the above are the rhetoric of those who choose not to exercise synapse action within their own cranium.

...Ignolance is briss.

Those who do not learn from the mistakes of history are doomed to repeat them.

Our attempts to stifle democracy in Iraq have failed...Now they are telling our diplomats to buzz off.

By my calculations, this war will cost about $1 trillion when it is all said and done. That is 1/12th of our yearly GDP...and a lot of it went into the pockets of Bush's and Cheney's friends. Then we wonder why there is no money left to help people out when their city is destroyed.

Plus gas prices went up, not down because of the war. I thought for sure they'd go down.

We better be building some solid military bases in that country.
