[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] shawn kemp. lockout really killed his career as i think he gained like 60 pounds and never recovered. He was amare but with a bunch of less athletic people surounding him in the game. also the most underrated dunker in the game, wanted to dunk on 12 foot rims in the dunk contest while dwight was in preschool. [/ QUOTE ] Everyone knew he was the best dunker in the NBA when he was in shape. This is a bad choice, he was never underrated. [/ QUOTE ] who is everyone? as a sonic fan in the mid 90's i barely got to see kemp footage on espn. he got screwed out of a dunk contest. he has only gotten recognized as an amazing athlete/dunker in the last couple years unfortunatly because of the dbag bill simmons. |

[/ QUOTE ] I almost never read Bill Simmons, and have never read anything he has written about Kemp. Everyone remembers Kemp as one of the best dunkers of his era when he was in shape. The idea that Kemp was some under the radar player that didn't get ESPN love is laughable. |

Kemp and Rodman were NOT underrated. WTF is wrong with some of you people? Kemp's dunks and potential were discussed and shown ad nauseum through the mid-90s, and Rodman was way too much of a hype machine to go unnoticed or underrated (plus, I dunno, all those rebound and all-defense titles brought a lot of attention in addition to the tattoos, piercings, and headlines). Not to mention he was widely regarded as the necessary 3rd piece to the Bulls three titles at the end of the last decade, the latter title run's answer to Horace Grant.

[ QUOTE ] Mitch Richmond [/ QUOTE ] Great player, not underrated imho. [/ QUOTE ] Same with KJ though. Neither of these guys were underrated really. They both made AS teams and were recognized as damn good players when they played. No one really short changed these guys. |

Kevin Johnson. Absolutely impossible to defend and shot ridiculously well from the FT line. At his best, probably was at least as good as DWade is.

Same with KJ though. Neither of these guys were underrated really. They both made AS teams and were recognized as damn good players when they played. No one really short changed these guys. [/ QUOTE ] I'm loathe to try to defend the KJ thing since I look like a homer after slamming the Kemp crew, but KJ's numbers are pretty ridiculous relative to the amount of attention he got. I posted them upthread. I mean seriously, how many 20/10 point guards have there been in history? Plus he shot like 49% from the field and 84% from the line. When's the last time you heard Kevin Johnson's name? He was always a very private person, and he seems to be vanishing from people's consciousness as well. Contrast this to Kemp, who was an unbelievable talent with one of the best teams of the 90s ('96 Sonics) who received tons of press for his abilities, only to become a fat cokehead (how does that happen anyway?) and father a child in basically every NBA city before eating and snorting his way out of the league way too early. |
