Drew,

Most UK fans have expectations that would blow your mind. They're basically Yankee fans that have nothing else to occupy their time. I'd almost forgotten this until now, having moved from the state a year ago. I think bills is proving my point in this thread.

I've heard Lowery to Michigan rumors, but nothing big yet as Lowery is busy trying to win a sweet sixteen game. Once this weekend is over, the coaching thing will get in full swing.

The Big11Ten cannot help but get better with the coaching changes. I'm not liking that MInny might not be as easy for the Illini to kick around anymore.

What do you expect from the new coach?

[/ QUOTE ]

Having a team capable of winning the national title 3 or 4 out of every 5 years. This doesn't mean Final Four every year - the tournament is somewhat of a crapshoot anyway. It means having a team that can compete with the best teams, which for the last 2 years (and more than half of Tubby's time at UK), Kentucky has not had.

The bubble is acceptable 1 out of 10 years. Maybe.

It just occurred to me that this situation is almost perfectly analogous to Alabama football's situation a couple months ago. See what they did? Think they'll be better or worse?

How much you think Phoenix is paying him and how much will UK give him?
Just wondering.

[/ QUOTE ]

My understanding is he currently makes about $1M/yr, maybe a little less.

If UK was giving Tubby $2.1M, they would give him at least $3M/yr and possibly $4M/$5M.

[/ QUOTE ]

From what I could find online, the 10th highest coach's salary in 2005 was $3.3 million (Byron Scott). Hard to see Mike D'Antoni significantly less.

Smith's contract was bloated. The top salaries are around $1.5-$2.0M

And where is he going to recruit, Italy?

Time will tell. I think the days of 'Bama football being something special are behind them. Times change.
