Like Beach Boys meets Sigur Ros or something, I dunno. Good stuff. [/ QUOTE ] WTF I SHOULD WRITE FOR PITCHFORK [ QUOTE ] ...that yields to a slumberous chorus of Brian Wilson harmonies... [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] ...sound like they're coming from a castrated Sigur Rós. [/ QUOTE ] |

[ QUOTE ] I'll second that recommendation. There was a few weeks this fall where All This Time and Neko Case's Fox Confessor album were pretty much all I listened to. [/ QUOTE ] I've pretty much had Neko Case on constant rotation for the last 2 weeks. [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] loooooove Neko Case...check out Kathleen Edwards, too....she's awesome. |

It's amazing this thread has gone this far without any love for Pinback. Prog-Rock/Indie-pop at its finest... Amazing musicians, seamless tempo changes/transitions, and all around great vibe.
Most recent Pinback full-length album Pitchfork Review. Pick any of their albums (or EP's) and you've found something that'll stay in rotation for a long time. Again, it fits into the Duke Ellington musical assessment, "If it sounds good, it is good." In this case, it's real good. If that hits you right, you definitely won't go wrong with some of its members' central contributions to Black Heart Procession (mentioned already in this thread), and Three Mile Pilot (sample tracks 1,3, & 7 here ... purchase, enjoy). |

The Besnard Lakes having Beach Boy harmonies I can mostly accept, but the Sigur Ros is way off-base as far as my knowledge of Sigur Ros goes (I never gave Takk a good listen, but I'm very familiar with Agaetis Byrjun and ()), but there is just waaaaaay too much guitar (at least of the unbowed variety) in The Besnard Lakes to be Sigur Ros. There's one long-ass guitar solo in one of the songs and all I could help but think was...I'm pretty sure Sigur Ros have never done an extended guitar solo, ever.
I might give you Beach Boys + Mogwai though, which was the first post-rock type band I could think of that sounded like Besnard Lakes. But I'm just being extremely nitpicky. |

Saw some very good suggestions from you all, and will check out some of the names that i had never heard about. I have a few names to add, which you may or may not already know about.
Don't think I have seen The Magic Numbers mentioned yet. They've made some great songs, superb combined vocals. Too bad they choose to upload three of their less exciting songs next to Take a Chance on their myspace. Very poppy - their tunes sound as if you have known them for years already yet I can never directly tie them to another song. A Band I recently fell in love with: CSS. OMG. Makes me really happy. Pretty sloppy play but who cares? The music and mentatity are irresistable. Blend of indie/electro-pop/punk by a bunch of brasilain arty brasilian girls and one dude who started making music without much knowledge of what to do with an instrument. Also The Go! Team is fricking awesome. Has an odd and very seductive raw originality and is super energetic/danceable. (does that last word exist?). I've always loved Blonde Redhead a lot, but have the impression they are more loved here (Holland/Europe... they are very influential in the Dutch indie-scene) than overseas. Am I right? |

Haven't listened to the rest of the people you suggested, but the Go! Team is super awesome. Loved their CD when it first came out and just got into it again recently for some reason. Very fun music and everyone should check it out!
