Default Tilt and multi tabling?

I know there are a million tilt threads, and I've tried to read them all; here is a new take on it.

I've had 5 consecutive winning years encompassing almost 1 million hands. I've been dealing with some tilt issues lately. While analyzing what is happening, I think I've found a link between my tilt and playing 4,5,6 or 7 tables. I built a very healthy bankroll playing primarily 2 or 3 tables at a time. I know my game does suffer a bit when i play more tables than that, but I've believed the extra hands I was able to play made up for it. Now, i think it is contributing to my tilt issues.

Here are my thoughts. Playing 5 or 6 tables is much more demanding mentally, so it isn't as much fun to play. Playing that many hands increases the number of "beats" which we all know can contribute to tilt. When the tilt does come, I'm now spraying chips across 6 tables instead of 2 or 3.

Right now, the tilt spasms are the biggest leak in my game, and it is making it a lot less fun to play. Unfortunately, I'm playing a lot more for the money now than I used to; the nearly mortal blow to bonus whoring hurt; I'm in the US.(I'm not a pro, but I am a serious semi-pro; my regular job pays the bills, and poker and bonus whoring pays for the extras), so taking an extended break isn't really an option now.
I'm staring to think I'd be better off doubling limits and cutting back to 2 or 3 tables.

What do others thinbk about the effect of multi tabling on tilt? Yes, I am addressing some of the other tilt issues; I'm teaching my shrink about playing poker, and she is helping me with the self control issues inherent in tilt.

Best Wishes,

Fitz

I agree on the multitable spewage. For this reason, I have dropped to 4 tables (I use to play 8), this has helped my winrate tremendously as I can make better plays with confidence and when tilted, only spew on 4 tables instead of 8.

FWIW losing AA, KK, QQ and JJ on four different tables at the same time has sent me into full on rage in a cage mode.

This alone should be sufficient reason to ease up on the tables. I firmly believe that multitabling is a -ev move for a lot of people; I'm not saying you fall in that camp, but it's something to consider.

Also consider this lil pearl of wisdom from Mike Caro:

"Money you dont lose buys just as many things as money you win"

As I've been thinking about it lately, I believe I'm on to something here. I built most of my BR playing 2 or 3 tables. That is enough to easily play 1000 hands a day which is about my limit for decent returns; it is also enough to keep me from getting bored. This is a problem I've really found playing live.

Thanks,

Fitz

This is a pretty interesting subject, and the tilt spewing is definitely a factor I take into consideration when I am playing 6max games. I started off playing about 4 6max games when I switched from full ring and then I saw all these higher stakes players playing 8+ games so I kinda pushed myself to play more tables. Early on when I went on tilt Id spew money an many tables at once. Now I notice though that I can control my tilt with more tables cuz it keeps my mind busy, where as when I play only 4 tables I kind of sit there and stew in my tilt. Now Im trying to get back to just 4 tabling cuz I can make much better reads and outplay my opponents a lot more when I dont have a ton of tables beeping at me. It seems for me the amount of tables I play is an aquired taste and right now my taste if for 8 tabling.

i play 8 and i am fine, a good player can convince himself to sit out and not spew on every table, if u have tilt issues learn to just sit out. some people cant handle this many tables tho and thats fine.

I know I have the same multi-table tilt problem. I have 90K hands of 1-3 tabling @ about 6ptbb/100, compared to 30K hands of 4-6 tabling @ 0.03ptbb/100. Although the 30K hands was on FTP, which I'm pretty sure is rigged

Really though, multi-tabling doesn't appear to be good for everyone. Stick with what works.
