I would 3-bet PF, if I get raised again, I'm folding. Flop, I would make a block bet.

As played, I'm folding to the flop reraise.

ummm, pf is fine. keep in mind that he minraised so its likely he has a big hand. on the flop, raising his bet i think is pretty bad. it turns your hand into a bluff. think about it, if he has AK or AQ or whatever, he's just gonna fold to your raise right? ... and if he has a bigger pair, hes just going to raise you. so raising his bet is actually -ev. you will take it down when he has nothing, but when he has something u will lose more than u needed to had u just called and seen what he does on the turn. (you also get the added value of seeing the turn card) ... if u make a set then, and he does happen to have a big hand, you have a good chance of taking all his chips. by flatting his bet, you will most likely freeze him on the turn and river ... most players wont fire 2 barrels in a reraised pot w/ air.

this was my thought too, exactly -- but I'm not sure whether it's right or whether learning to play tight preflop is gradually turning me into a calling station. Any more opinions on whether a flop smooth call is better/worse?

Preflop is fine

I call the flop and fold to further agression, if you do decide to raise the flop you should definitley fold to his 3bet !

[ QUOTE ]
After raising pre-flop with your raise on the flop you are pretty much telling him that you have an overpair. If he pushes regardless there are two options:

1) He is retarded. Then it is a call.
2) He is decent. Then it is a fold as you beat only 88 and 99, both not really likely given pre-flop play.

ok thanks for the replies

My thoughts preflop: haha it's only .50 to call, hopefully I get a set and stack him.

Postflop: yayayyaya overpair=nuts googoogogoogo lets stack that donk he got nothing mwhahahahahahha

Worst part was that I was 1-tabling

I should start thinking postflop.

I just call the flop and probably fold the turn, particularly if the overcard falls. The only reason I call the flop is to see what he does on the turn, if he bets again I can release this.
