D.C. Cafe is a beat-up joint out of place in Dupont. Nonetheless, Cafe is family owned and dishes out great falfels, gyros and greek desserts. Entrees range from $6-9!

Greensboro, NC (why you would be in this city...no idea?) -- Yum Yum's Ice Cream (famous for hotdogs and ice cream located on the UNCG campus)

[/ QUOTE ]

LOL, you never know. I've had some decent Thai in a strip mall in Greensboro.

If you are in Asheville, NC, then you have to try Salsas, just off Pack Square on Patton Ave. Amazing and inventive Mexican/Caribbean cuisine, at affordable prices. No resos, you have to wait like everyone else.

Also, you have to try 12 Bones for amazing barbeque and sides, also at affordable prices. Open only from 11am-4pm Monday thru Friday, you can expect a line out the door, but it's worth the wait.

Annapolis MD -

Buddy's Crabs - avoid like the plague, this is the city dock tourist trap no local would be caught dead in.

Mexican Cafe - Food is great, Margaritas are phenomenal. Cops could make a mint if they ever set up a sobriety checkpoint.

Cantlers - off the beaten path and a great local-only hangout. Big long tables with crustacean skeletons everywhere. Vegetable crab soup not to be missed even if you're having a full dinner.

Cantlers is a good call. What do you think Of Joss? I think it's great and they're taking over the Kawasaki on Charles in Baltimore, which I'm really excited about. Kawasaki was solid, the owner is the owner of Joss' wifes brother , but Joss takes it to another level and we'll finally have a really good sushi place in Baltimore. I think most people would agree Kawasaki was the best in Baltimore and they are going to love Joss when it opens up, this summer I think.

My gf is from Annapolis and I'll try to get some more out of her to add later.

Been to the place a dozen times and have always dodged the fish tacos...even though I love fish tacos in general (see a trip report somewhere in OOT). But thanks to a slightly unexpected promotion for my shuga-momma we are out the door. Hope they are as good as you say.

Chicago

Heat

1507 N. Sedgwick (Blackhawk) right near Old Town.

Japanese/sushi. Sashimi is is killed-to-serve. You can literally choose the exact fish from the tanks neatly placed underneath the sushi bar.

No a la carte options. Your choices are a 7-course menu with either high grade ($45) or premium ($60) cuts of fish, or a chefs tasting menu that starts at $100. The chefs tasting menu is where they kill the fish in front of you. Also, you can choose from 20 different types of sake.

This is obviously not for everyone, but imo Heat is HANDS DOWN the best Japanese/sushi restaurant in Chicago.

[/ QUOTE ]

eh...heat is not that great. very expensive i think for what you are getting. and the decor...trying to hard.

however, you CAN get heat for takeout, which is interesting.
