howard is a top 5 franchise player IMO. [/ QUOTE ] I think I agree - I was trying to come up with a reasonable argument to take Brand over Howard (duration of career) - there really isn't one - unless you really discount Howard's upside and assume Brand stays at 2006 levels for 4 more years (by which time Brand will be 32 or so). -Al |

Wow the NBA picks an All-Star from a Winning team to be a reserve over one that is on a losing team. This is brand new stuff guys. Brand hasn't made it before for similar reasons. He's rediculously good, doesn't mean he has to make the all-star team.
Ray Allen made it because their aren't a plethora of great guards in the West. In the West there are ton of great 4s. They took one off the division leading team that lost it's only spot due to injuries. This is the norm in the NBA. |

How many times has Brand made the team?
Twice. Do you honestly think he was that much worse the other years? His stats last year are slightly higher than previous years. Teams that are closer to the top of the division are always going to get favored when it comes to all-stars. There are some players that always get in no matter what they do. Look at the 2004-2005 All-Star Game. Manu Ginobili was averaging 16 ppg, 4.4 RPG, 3.9 APG and he made the team while Brand averaged 20.0, 9.5, 2.6 and +2 BPG. C-Webb also averaged 21.3/9.7/5.5 in his games with the Kings and was left off the team but division leading Manu made the team while these 2 guys who obviously were more deserved didn't make the team. This honestly happens every year. |

Well I think some of you are confusing All-Star Players = Best Players. Just like a lot of you confuse MVP = Best Player in the League.

Capone:
[ QUOTE ] His stats last year are slightly higher than previous years. [/ QUOTE ] Well that's not true at all - he was a lock last year based on really, incredible numbers. He had a career-defining jump in stats last season (hopefully not the aberrant career year, for Clipper fans). [ QUOTE ] There are some players that always get in no matter what they do. If anything it's his slow start this season, leading to an overall fall-off from last year's numbers, as well as Clippers team performance. I don't think it's fair but perception-wise I can see how he got screwed. -Al |
