When people are new to the B+M world, they head here for answers. I really think the tolerance level for the basic topics that keep coming up should be kept high for the benefit of the less experienced players.

I see no problem whatsoever with allowing these "basic" concept threads to surface periodically, especially if the title adequately describes the contents.

I enjoy chiming in and helping where I can. I'd assume that's the reason most of us are here.

Steve,

I'm having trouble sleeping tonight so I got up, turned on some soft classical music and went to this tipping thread hoping it would bore me to sleep. Now I find this post. Incredible tip and tool!

Now I can bore myself to sleep searching for and reading some of my old posts.

My thoughts mirror those written above. I'm rarely involved in tipping threads and they don't bother me when they surface. They really don't take up that much space and they are easy to ignore.

I'm guilty of going over old ground regarding rake and drop issues but I'm trying to hone my arguments and I realize we have new people coming through.

I really like tipping threads. The hostility they generate is good reading to get me in the mood to go out and do a drive-by shooting or two.

[/ QUOTE ]

if you want hostility go hang out in a hostile friendly forum like BBV4L where anything goes. B&M is civilized, and will remain that way - even with tipping threads.

I think its safe to say that most of the respondents are pro-tipping threads to be permitted. I'll touch base with RR to determine how we implement the policy change.

"hostile friendly forum" - I love that phrase.

I have to stay away from BBV4L and other forums frequented by peoples whom I would feel compelled to encourage to open a vein. If they actually did the guilt would haunt me until the end of time. And by time I mean my next beer.

I am definitely pro-tipping threads to be permitted.

I'm in favor of any topic that is relevant to the forum (basic B&M etiquette/procedures would easily qualify), and can be discussed without extraordinary baby-sitting from the mods.

I've done too much time in their shoes to ever want to make their jobs any more challenging than they are already.

Heh, okay, sorry everybody. I'm a jerk, whaddaya gonna do. No harm meant, just trying to amuse myself and maybe others. Does it help any if I say I was at the time stuck in the Denver airport all day due to a missed connection?
