I'm somewhat curious if these size of withdrawals are common for Western Union or am I going to be asked questions about what its for. Obviously it is none of their damn business but I don't want to raise flags by refusing to answer why I'm getting thousands of dollars from the Phillipines or wherever. Any suggestions on what to say, should that arise?

I was thinking about that, especially when the counter woman asked me if I was related to the sender. I was going to state I sent her an old computer COD from ebay.

For my occupation, the WU system wouldn't accept Self-Employed so I ended up giving them "Ebayer" as I'll dabble on Ebay at times. (FWIW-I report all my poker winnings & pay taxes on them, but don't officially declare myself a professional gambler on my tax returns.) The person doing the transaction asked me what the person bought? I said this transaction was unrelated to EBAY, and he didn't ask any follow up questions. And to answer your question, I don't know if these amounts are common, I imagine 3K is definitely on the higher end of what WU outfits are used to dealing with. And to the person who said tell the truth. If pressed or asked, I would not say that I play online poker & these are my winnings and the poker site is unable to send me the money anymore through wire transfers because their processors are dropping out. etc. etc. and they are sending me the money through some random person in the Phillipines. Just be vague & limited in your reply, as it is none of their business. If you told them it was from an overseas online poker site (routed through the Philippines)it may arouse suspicion, who knows? |

I really don't know much about these things.
But you can say you suddenly owe a lot of money and your friend who is travelling sent it to you so you won't have your legs broken. Or you can say that it's from some former friend of yours who stiffed you on a debt (you helped with his car's down-payment) and then he left the country and he's FINALLY freaking paying you back. Whatever. Obviously it's none of their business. But if they do ask I think there are plenty of legit/plausible reasons to be receiving $3k from the Phillipines. Maybe all of these Western Union cash-outs at the same time will catch some attention. But I'm guessing there aren't going to be so many that it would be that attention grabbing. Also - on the Latino-Satellite package they have about a zillion commercials for Western Union. All of the ads are for latinos IN the U.S. to send money home to their families in 3rd world countries who need it. But the funds do go the other way too (college students for example). and, as has already been observed, there are lots of ebay purchases out there. |

[/ QUOTE ] I thought of this as well, as Bodog support told me they had 1000-2000 w/d requests pending via Western Union & w/d's are taking much longer to be approved than normal. Usually it was a few hours (great fast payouts) now it's 24-48 hours for your final receiving instructions for WU. Which is understandable of course. That is why Bodog is setting their own limit at 3K per transaction & one a day, & offering one free payout per week via Western Union as the fees are quite hefty. The guy told me they are $50-$100 fees per $1000 transaction. So Bodog is paying through the nose to get these cashouts to their U.S customers to keep them satisfied, and for that I thank them as like I mentioned before I got caught with too much of my roll on Bodog and had planned on w/d'ing quite a bit anyway. With this recent spike in WU payments, maybe it will raise some red flags in the WU system, but I'm sure they're happy with all the extra revenue it's generating for them. And you are right about the latin/ Western Union as their material is equally in Spanish as it is in English. So they are used to dealing with transactions involving third world countries. And to repeat, Bodog phone support has been great throughout everything. I have no complaints with them whatsoever. It's amazing you call Bodog support & they answer the phone within one or two rings every time with perfect English speakers on the other end. |

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with an issue regarding the bodog new payout options. I was told the only way i could withdraw my money from my account is via western union, but the problem is bodog told me first that I have to fill out a visa verification form. They want me to fax nonetheless my credit card, in my case debit card, a copy of it, front and back, another form of ID in addition to that, and a copy of my driver's license. That is absurd and seems very unsecure and flaky. I am reluctant to be faxing all that info to them. what other options do I have in terms of getting my money out of the account? Somebody please help if at all possible?

[/ QUOTE ] This is true and I just recently (a few days ago) faxed this to them. It takes simply 5 minutes to do and it is verified that same day. I knew I'd have to do this when I deposited using my debit card, just took awhile to do. It's really no problem and I feel that it's completely secure. |
