First off, it didn't seem Peter had any real chance to win by decision and there was no reason to think he was a favorite for the UD. He came out better than EVER and no one could have predicted that accurately.
Second, Toney to not win by KO/DQ/TKO was not that great of a bet, we know peter loves the rabbit punches and time and time again he was pushing the line with the punches behind the head and the unsportsmanship like conduct in response to Toney's same. To me, I think someone stated it best when they said the over was the best bet in boxing. Just trying to give my unbiased observations. |

[/ QUOTE ] Ya I was a little worried about a Peter DQ because of Rabbit Punches, but think about it he was warned in the first and not warned again for 11 rounds, so it really wasn't a problem. If Peter wasn't DQed against Wlad for Rabbit Punches then I don't see Peter losing by DQ. That prop was safe why else would the odds have skyrocketed also did you see Toney hit Peter at least 3 times with his best shot and Peter doesn't flinch. Tuds |

dude. relax. my tone wasn't hostile, and you have my word that i wasn't insulting you whenever i replied to you or anyone else's comments. i obviously had strong opinions myself about this bout.
about this bout: smart money was on toney winning if it went to a dec with the assumption toney was in better shape than the first fight. this was the gist of my posts, and to explain some of the reasons why i thought this was still the case despite toney weighing at 234lbs. of course saying peter had zero chance of winning unless it was by ko was exaggerated, there is no such thing in professional sports as one team or one athlete having zero chance at anything. i made the comment to drive a point i obviously felt strong about: that peter winning a dec was very unlikely. imo it was as unlikely as toney winning by ko. i hope this helps clear things up. |

oh, about the fight itself. i was at ringside for this fight. i was utterly surprised that toney seemed to be in the worse shape/condition of his career (even worst that the first fight and the fight vs rahman; he was knocked-down from a jab!), but was even more surprised at peter's improvements (i saw peter throwing uppercuts!! and showing intelligence by staying away from the ropes, etc).
one of the people i was with at the fight turned to me and said "i don't know whether to be disappointed on how much toney has let himself go or be impressed by peter's improvements." i told him it's a little bit of both, and i think most people will agree with me here. bring on collazo/mosley next! |

Hey man, Im cool. I just was riding a pretty losing streak and was excited my thoughts on the fight came true. I enjoyed the back and fourth with you about this bout. Sitting ringside must have been a blast, the fight wasn't very competative, but a very entertain fight (especially with today's heavys).
Glad to have another boxing mind who can and will play devil's advocate to me. I need and appreciate a person(s) that will bring other ideas and insight I don't have. I'll give me thoughts on the fight real quick as well: James Toney needs to show some class and give Peter his due and then needs to retire. I don't know what bothers me more about Toney, his ability to eat and undertrain his weight up to 234 or his denial that he could ever lose a fight. It's always someone else's fault James lost, never James. James just needs to look at Peter barely marked face and then look at his swollen and bruised face. 'NUFF SAID JAMES. Time to hand them up, but then again I would love to see him get KO'ed into retirement, because that is the only way he is going to retire. Peter said he didn't want to fight James Toney again, but that might have been the best move for Peter to fight Toney again. Peter took Toney serious this time and came in shape and with a good gameplan that he followed perfectly. Like Robin said he should things he has never shown before (I too was surprised to see Peter throwing uppercuts and then crisp jabs). The experience Peter gets from going 24 rounds with Toney will really help Peter become a top heavyweight for a decade. He is really improving leaps and bounds from where he was 2 years ago and if Sam Peter keeps at this pace of improvement in his overall game, he will be champion for a while. What about Valuev/McCline in 2 weeks? Very interesting fight Tuds |
