34. ... Qxb3 35. Qb8+ Kh7 36. Qxa7 I don't think we're much better off [/ QUOTE ] I agree, we are not better off in this line. Keeping our queen at e6 hitting the g-pawn will stop him from checking us and taking either the a or b pawns. (He's not trading "g" for "a or b") So if that's true what non-queen move can we make to improve our position. Rc3,Rc2,a6,a5, how does the horsey move again? |

34. ... Qxb3 35. Qb8+ Kh7 36. Qxa7 I don't think we're much better off [/ QUOTE ] but then we have 36...Qb4 with a double attack on the rook and g4 pawn, which we will take with check. He doesn't have time to take on a7 in this line. |

34...Qxb3 leads to nothing after 35.Bxa7 Qxg3+ (what else?) 36.hxg3 b5 37.Re8+ Kh7 38.Rb8.
I suggest 34...Nc3 to improve our position (and control d1). After 35.Qb8+ Rc8 36.Qxb7 Qxg4+ 37.Kh1 Ne4 our position looks very, very promising, so we don't have to waste time to avoid his option Qb8+ now. |

[/ QUOTE ] At the end of the 34...Qxb3 line there is either 38...b4 or 38...Nc3, but I can see how it might be hard to get this pawn going any further. 34...Nc3 looks good too, after 35.Qb8+ Kh7 might be even better than Rc8. Also possible is just 34...Rc8, which renews the threat of taking on b3. I'll have to look some more and see which I like best. |

[/ QUOTE ] With nothing I mean that we won't be able to make progress and the result will be a draw while I think that atm black is better. I don't like 34...Rc8 because Qb8+ is no threat and the rook on c6 also hinders a pawn advance g4-g5-g6. |
