Last year Iverson shot nearly 45 percent shooting nearly 25 times per game on a horrible team (non-playoff team in the East). He also dished out 7.4 assists per game, and despite dominating the ball so much, only turned the ball over 3.4 times per game.
He is an unbelievable talent, and all of you defining his game by shooting percentage should go back to talking about JD Drew's OBP+ in some baseball thread. Mosdef especially, please stop posting in basketball threads. |

Another issue:
Without a frontcourt, the Nugs still cant compete with San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, or Utah. Expect a first round exit either way. |

[ QUOTE ] http://www.nbcsports.com/nba/600326/detail.html [/ QUOTE ] I dunno, his sample size seems really really small to be drawing any conclusions whatsoever. Or, to look at it another way, let's say that the chances of a team winning are 50% in each scenario. What are the chances of the author going through the data and NOT jumping to some conclusion? Also, why 4? [/ QUOTE ] Honestly, this some of the worst sports analysis I've read in a while. There's all sorts of things wrong with it. And his conclusion is general b-ball common sense. Teams with better players are more balanced. Shots spread around. No crap. Worse teams have worse players and the best of the bunch needs to take more shots. i.e., if he could model the '05-'06 Philly team and AIs attempts down to 17, I'm pretty damn sure they'd have a worse record than they did. |

Hey guys also check out Kyle Korver's numbers since Iverson demanded a trade. It is a small sample size, but it was one of the first things I predicted happening with Iverson leaving.
Rodney Carney should be getting most of his minutes by the end of the year. |

Hooray for "proving a point" with small sample spaces. [ QUOTE ] He also dished out 7.4 assists per game, and despite dominating the ball so much, only turned the ball over 3.4 times per game. [/ QUOTE ] "Only" 3.4 was fifth highest in the league. And this doesn't have much to do with whether or not the shots he takes go in. [ QUOTE ] He is an unbelievable talent [/ QUOTE ] Did I say he wasn't? Did anyone say he wasn't? [ QUOTE ] and all of you defining his game by shooting percentage [/ QUOTE ] Did I do this? I post "X", you post "Y is not true!!!" and call me stupid. Try again. |

he had a productive webber to play with last year. it was the first time iverson had a scoring big man to play with.
i expect iversons FG% to be over 44 in denver, not that it really matters that much, because it's a horrible gage of how good a player is. mosdef, sorry for the confusion. we should all just stop entertaining desertcat's trolls about field goal percentage being the end all of basketball. omg ruben patterson best player ever shooting 57 percent from the field this year!!! if he wanted to score as much as gilbert and iverson he could !!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree they are still looking up at SA, Mavs and the Suns but they have helped narrow the gap IMO. Camby/Nene and Najera/Evans off the bench is not great but enough to compete, especially if Nene stays healthy and becomes the player they think he will. They don't need front court scoring and these guys can board and play hustle D. Nene just has to play better one on one D (Kmart's injuries have hurt them here) so Camby can play off the ball. The team's Achilles heel in the playoffs has been an inability to score in the half court and the teams' (read Dre and Melo's) horrible defense. |

Camby/Nene and Najera/Evans [/ QUOTE ] LOL. Sure, it would match up nicely with Ben Wallace, PJ Brown, and Tyrus Thomas, or Rasheed Wallace and Nazr Mohammed, but remember they play out West with the big boys. Camby is a good shotblocker, but his 1on1 post defense is average at best at this point. Also, not sure if you have seen Nene recently, but he's looking like Tractor Traylor. I like Najera, but is he supposed to match up with Carlos Boozer or Shawn Marion? I just don't see how a horrible defensive team with a below average frontcourt can expect to compete, even if they have two top five scorers. |

we should all just stop entertaining desertcat's trolls about field goal percentage being the end all of basketball. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, it's hardly a good stand-alone stat. Especially if the guy is good at getting to the line and making FTs like Iverson. However, a terrible FG% with no FTAs and lots of FGA is usually a strong signal of a player hurting his team on offense. |
