[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] A soldier knows umpeenth more ways of how to kill, wound and generally make the opponent feel bad than any martial arts champion. [/ QUOTE ] Why don't you list some of these then? Be specific. [/ QUOTE ] You're more than welcome to come to Sweden and I'll show you... Read any army manual, soldires fortune and other junk and you'll find that most higher level soldiers knows how to kill with just a pencil... [/ QUOTE ] Come on, this is so weak. You are the one person who could actually describe commando techniques but you refuse to be specific. I can't take you at your word because it could just be bravado/pride talking and not sound analysis. My point is that your hand to hand techniques (which does not include pencil wielding) are not going to be anywhere near the level of a professional who spends 56 hours a week training for this type of conflict. You are going to have to have some super duper amazing techniques to counter the kick boxing, wrestling, and submission skills of Fedor Emelianenko. |

[ QUOTE ]
It all comes down to Boxer = (all the boxing skills) Streefighter = (boxing skills plus more skills) Martial artist = (Streefighter skills plus more skills) UFC = (Martial arts skills plus more skills) SEAL = (UFC skills plus more skills) [/ QUOTE ] Even if this nesting of skillsets is accurate, it doesn't mean SEAL > UFC. The reason is that these skills are not binary "you either have them or you don't" type skills. This isn't the Matrix, where you just plug your brain into the computer and learn kung-fu, then check that box off on your list. A SEAL might know all of the skills a UFC champ knows plus more, but that doesn't mean he is *as proficient* in those skills as the UFC champ is. Victor Kramnik knows how to play chess. I know how to play chess, and I know how to play bridge and dominoes. I also once played go. Let's say Victor has never played go (or bridge or dominoes!), but he has heard of it, and is somewhat familiar with the rules. Who would you bet on in a heads-up winner-take-all go match? |

How much time did you actually spend getting bludgeoned in the face, kicked in the legs/groin, or shot on all while someone is trying to get position on you to take you down and break all your limbs or knock you unconcious? The answer, very little. |

All this thread does is show up posters.
[ QUOTE ] These skills are not binary "you either have them or you don't" type skills. A SEAL might know all of the skills a UFC champ knows plus more, but that doesn't mean he is *as proficient* in those skills as the UFC champ is. [/ QUOTE ]Correct. So we "have" to choose how probable it is that they are generally equally skillful, or who is more likely to be skillful. In the absence of any kind of hard information, and in the presence of only some WWF-like posturing, I chose equally likely. (And, remember, we're supposed to be assessing the line for skills about a fight to the death.) I also said that if it can be shown that the UFC man is more likely, then [shrug] no sweat, he gets the nod. You are putting down my "binary" notions, but you should realize that in this kind of general, abstract quest we can going around in circles for ages. It's not as if we had specific persons ready to rumble. Therefore, I chose to generalize and simplify, because the premises are already way too general and simplistic. [ QUOTE ] Victor Kramnik...Go... [/ QUOTE ] During his preparation for the Manila match against Korchnoi, Anatoly Karpov and his team would relax by taking walks or playing pool. Karpov was introduced to the Asian game of Go, by his seconds, as a diversionary game of relaxation, but they had to abandon that practice quickly, because the unfailingly competitive and analytical Karpov was immediately all over his new discovery, deep in examination and brain cell burning.
