This depends factors you don't mention, like stacksize and HOW your oppt plays tight. Is he also very tight postflop, giving away whether he hit the flop? Can you deduce whether he raised with an already decent hand by his postflop play? Does he C-bet and then shut down? Will he lose a big pot with one pair?

Generally I think SAGE is misunderstood. It basically insures no one can have an edge AGAINST you, but it is by no means optimal if you have a fairly good handle on your opponents play. SAGE=playing your cards without regard to your oppt. Goldmund

If you dont think hes pushing and calling enough hands then folding marginal hands that SAGE says to call is definitely optimal.

I'm with goldmund... people defitely don't understand SAGE.

Like he said... sage is playing cards and not your opponent. If you know NOTHING about your opponent you can't go wrong with SAGE. You will have an edge. But that edge is small. If haven't played the ENTIRE game with your eyes closed you can definitely play more optimally than SAGE.

They are having a very similar discussion right now in the poker theory forum. The conclusions are the same: If you observe a tendancy of your opponent, it is correct to adjust... OBV That's how you play HU poker... but adjusting... none of this blind pushing/calling. USE YOUR FREAKING HEAD

Goldmund... just to clarify, with regards to stack size. The SAGE method assumes <10 BBs in one of the opponent's stacks. Clearly, you know this. But for our viewers at home what goldie means to imply is that when deviating from the SAGE system in a situation where it applies, stack size must be considered.

If you know your villains range is signifigantly tighter than calling with the same range of hands (while it wont lose you profit) wont gain as much as you could, in addition he will also fold a lot of hands he should call with which gains you future +EV by folding.

Yeah I'm aware alright...the one thing you CAN get from SAGE without adopting it as a system is you have to CALL a lot too in shallowstack waters. Many players push often, correctly, but fold way too often to open-pushes. You''ll be amazed by how often people shove with T2-off, just because it was "their turn" to steel the blinds. Goldmund
