I Love Lucy for the win. Has anyone noticed that the older comedies (marx Brothers, Dick Van Dyke, et al.) were funnier when you were a kid? I think we get more cynical, jaded and picky as we get older. [ QUOTE ] family guy is great. did anyone notice how simpsons has started to try to do that thing family guy does where it says "like that time chris tried to join the circus (or whatever)"... and then has some cutaway. simpsons needs to go away now. so unfunny i had to turn it off half way through last time. but it was great like 8 years ago. i want to put in my vote for "news radio". phil hartman = comedy genius. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, The Simpsons did it first and then dropped it. The producers actually mention it on one of the commentaries, saying something to the effect of: "Yeah, once family guy started doing it, we knew we should stop". They're jealous of FG's success, if you ask me. [/ QUOTE ] Well, it depends on what you want to accomplish with the episode. If you want a bunch of crazy one- or two-line gag, the cutaways are good. If you want to develop a coherent plot, not so good. |
