Default New $1 coin- would the changes make YOU use them?

New coins with President faces

"The U.S. Mint is hoping that Martin Van Buren and Millard Fillmore can do what Susan B. Anthony and Sacagawea couldn't - get Americans to use dollar coins.....The Mint is hoping the continually changing faces will entice consumers to break their traditional reluctance to use dollar coins.

"We think Americans are going to want to collect the series, and that will drive the coins through the economy," said U.S. Mint Director Edmund Moy."

Maybe it's just me, but why would collectability have anything to do with long-term UTILITY success in dollar coins? Until dollar coins have a weight and bulk that allows me to carry 20-30 of them easily, I don't see what use dollar coins are, for me.

I know they're cheaper in the long-term (are they easier to counterfeit? Then maybe not..) and if you use coins a lot, it might be slightly more convenient that multiple smaller coins, but still...

Am I just weird, or is the Mint fooling themselves again?
Will the same thing happen with the new coins as the old silver dollars- people will collect some but not use them?

I hate having change in my pocket. I won't use them.

Also, I think Nixon's face appearing on official US currency is a disgrace

Besides, how do you get the $1 coin into the stippers G-string?

If they work in any machine, they're great -

our change machine at work dumps them out and I'll regularly use a 20 in there, and then the 20 bucks in dollar coins I end up using in machines, meters, and so forth -

I like them - anyone ever try to use a paper 1 dollar bill in a vending machine these days? - bastards never get thru easily unless they're crisp and new -

I like them - plus I can flip them like poker chips if my hands are bored - so I'm already using them and will use the new ones too -

Dollar coins are a good idea, they need to just phase out the dollar bills and then they'll start being accepted more and more. They then need to bring back the $2 bill - going to a $2 coin like they do in Canada is pushing it. You end up carrying too much change around all the time.

You're not weird. Until the paper $1 notes are removed from circulation, $1 coins will not increase in usage.

The only way the mint can justify these coins is to make them more of a collectible, which is precisely what they did.

Why would you want to carry 20-30 dollar coins? Isn't that like carrying $5 in quarters now?

Do you mean people 50 years ago used to collect rather than spend silver dollars? or people now? Because the silver in a dollar is worth like $10 now, it would be retarded to spend it on a snickers bar.

They then need to bring back the $2 bill

It's never left, in fact making a comeback.
