Agreed, at least he sheds the attitude a little and concedes that others might be right with the play almost any 4 approach. Made it fun to read, but the rest...

Lindgren's WPT fluff's just that. That may be the fact that I read the book fairly late in my development, but I was going, "That's a little obvious!" <shrugs>

"The Illustrated Guide to Texas Hold'Em"... I saw this sitting on the shelf of the library today. Just like it was the last time I passed by. Sure wish someone would sign this one out, so my competition would get easier :P

You should borrow the book just to see exactly how bad it is, then post the bad examples that we didn't get to in the last thread. The example I posted were from browsing the book for 10 minutes at Borders. There has to be some gems that I didn't see in those ten minutes.

Actually, Ken A. wrote a review on it for the last edition of CPP. I’ll quote one paragraph:

As further nit-picking, situation #43 has a graphical error on the flop cards, telling me there are no hearts on the flop, with the A of hearts staring me in the face. #46 tries to convince me that KT suited is a good starting hand in a tournament; #56 - #60 starts out well by folding 77 after a preflop raise, and re-raise (which I feel is correct), but the next Situations carry out as if you had called, pairing you against an “idiot” from an earlier hand, who ends up knocking you out of this particular tournament; during the multiple table internet tournament a player “hesitates”, which is labeled a tell, without noting the multiple other reasons for a lag while playing online. My last negative example exemplifies the lapses in reason, when the author advises “I’ll make a move with my hand” to telegraph his indecision before checking – this during an internet qualifier. I wonder if his opponent fell for it.

In terms of the worst-written book, I don't think anything compares with Winning Concepts in Draw and Lowball, which was obviously written in some language only Mason speaks, translated into Portuguese by some primitive version of babelfish, and then translated into English by someone who didn't speak Portuguese, but had a French-Portuguese dictionary. (He probably didn't speak French either.)

Alternately it may have had its copyediting outsourced to Bizarro-World, where copyeditors' job is to introduce as many errors as possible.

It does contain good advice for games nobody plays anymore, though, in much the way you might find Beowulf useful if you had to fight off Grendel, who happened to give you a few days' advance notice.

Ok, what is with all the negativity towad Ken Warren Teaches?

I know it's a thick book, bought the thing ages ago and gave it a quick skim though. I never did go into it in detail but I must have missed some bad info. If I get any time this month I'll try to re-read the thing and find out what has people gungy about it

Someone tell me though, the areas I should narrow in on that are of particular interest?
