Watching the Wheels - John Lennon.

One Thing Leads to Another - The Fixx

Crazy Train - Ozzy

Squeeze - Tempted

For Those About to Rock - AC/DC ( for the guitar intro alone)

And there is no way Would I Lie to You is a better song than Sweet Dreams.

P.S. Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Toto/Rosanna

The correct answer is "Africa". We also would have accepted "Hold the Line".

No Fleetwood Mac (didn't see it on list) bums me out.

R.E.M., New Order, The Cure, The Replacements, The Talking Heads, and Tom Waits = the 80s do not suck.

I know! I like them but I don't really LOVE one song..."Sarah, Smile" would've made it but I think that's in the 70s...

This makes sense. Fair enough Dom. Nice list other than that

yea i did a quick scan for R.E.M. and the Replacements and when I didn't see them I stopped reading... and then like 6 other people mentioned acts that should be on here or aren't. I'll throw in the Smiths and Husker Du as noticably absent as well.

I forgot:

Run DMC: Walk This Way
Beastie Boys: No Sleep Til Brooklyn
Public Enemy: Fight the Power*
Grandmaster Flash: White Lines

* Released as a single in 1989 but also on a 1990 album. If you're getting nitty, then go with "Bring The Noise" from 1988.

By 80's do you mean a certain style of music or just anything released in the 80's? If it's the latter I don't really like ripping other people's music taste, but this list blows.

Dom,

Great idea for a thread!

We need some polls or some way to vote and rank the top 100.

My suggestions for bands you left out:
Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
Survivor - High on You
Huey Lewis - Power of Love
U2 - With or Without You
The Cars - Drive
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
Asia - Heat of a Moment

Other suggestions for the bands you listed:
Bangles - Eternal Flame
Pat Benatar - We Belong
David Bowie (and Queen) - Under Pressure
Berlin - Take my Breath Away
Don Henley - End of the Innocence
Scandal - The Warrior
The Police - King of Pain
Van Halen - Jump
Toto - Africa
Genesis - Throwing it all away
Tears for Fears - Everybody wants to rule the world

Ones I COMPLETELY agree with:
Belinda Carlisle/Mad About You
Kim Carnes/Bette Davis Eyes
The Cure - Just Like Heaven
Murray Head/One Night in Bangkok
Hooters/And We Danced
Outfield/Your Love
Thompson Twins/Hold Me Now
Til Tuesday/Voices Carry
T'Pau/Heart and Soul
Traveling Wilburys/Handle with Care

Excellent choice.

I agree with about 70%, and disagree with about 30%

Van Halen - Running with The Devil
Belinda Carlisle - Blue Heaven
Toto - Hold the Line

A few others I thing I would have gone with another choice.

One that sticks out for me that you missed is

Marillion - Kayleigh (I think it had more airplay in Europe) - I'm pretty sure it was in the 80's - great song

Oops - Running with the Devil - 70's
