What is his plan? Probably Bb2, to help prevent us from advancing the d-pawn. He can then move Rad1 to put pressure on the d-pawn. He can follow up by lining up both rooks on the d-file.

If we move Ne4, we can follow up with Nc5, forcing him to move his Q (trying to prevent him from loading up the d-file), and later Ne6, supporting our pawn push to d4.

I don't think it's awful both of these concepts are good things so it's a worthy suggestion. I would still think in terms of what kind of ending we want, but if get our pawn un-isolate that changes everything. Of course that's not going to happen, if we play Qe7 he will move the king or play Bb2 so he can double our gf pawns if we get rid of the isolated pawn.... Or.. something else but he's not going to let us get rid of the isolated pawn for free....

It's not a heavy piece you can just as easy move it to g4 or h5. Suggesting that it is a standard follow-up without anything to back it up is not very helpful. If Ne4 is standard so is Re6, Qd7 and most other random moves, cause I said so....

And from e4 what are you doing with the knight?

e4 is a more natural square for this knight than h5 or g4. It can go to g5, which combined with a move like Qd7/c8 would be very nice for us. It can go to e6 quickly via c5, where it covers g7 and helps control d4 simultaneously. It prevents moves like 19.Rd1 because it clears f6 for the queen while also attacking f2 (18...Ng4 also does this but that would be met by Bb2 and h3, it's not a stable square, while on h5 the knight has no future but to go back to f6 at some point).

18...Ne4 is almost certain to be answered with 19.Bb2, so we should be looking at moves in that position.

I think you had your sarcasm meter turned off when reading my reply. My objection is in claiming that Ne4 is ultra-easy and standard follow-up, without backup. Accepted that if we look at Ne4, it should be done in context against Bb2 being played.
