[ QUOTE ]
how about a stale observation being "commentators for sporting events suck" GET A LIFE THEY HAVE TO CATER TO THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATORS OR NEW VIEWERS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FOLLOW THE ACTION. [/ QUOTE ] Come on, man. How many people who tune in for MFN (for example) are watching football for the first time in their life? They appeal the lowest common denominator because it's what the viewers want, not because the need to "educate" the 34 people in America who have never seen football before but suddenly decide to watch a game. Life is difficult and complicated. Mindless recreation like watching sports on TV is better (for most people) when it's presented as simple. If you're trying to relax for a few hours by watching the game, it's a lot more fun to pretend that the entire sport can be summarized by 3 meaningless tautologies and that if you've memorized them then that makes you an expert. |

[ QUOTE ] It's only because I'm a Yankee fan but: "The Yankees just buy their team!! Highest Payroll!!" Just please, stop. [/ QUOTE ] You're so right back in the 80s and early 90s when their payroll was just average they like always made the playoffs and even made the World Series a few times, I think? [/ QUOTE ] Oh yeah I'm not trying to deny anything like that. I'm just referring more to people thinking they are being original by bringing that up in sports conversation. |

Anybody who says something like "I like movies" or "I like music" as an interest should be avoided unless you don't mind vapid, boring human beings.

You're both right. |

Put another way, when light (color) is absorbed completely, "black" is the "color" that is seen. When light strikes a surface, three things happen: Reflection, transmission (glass, or other translucent/transparent surface), or absorption. |

FWIW, there is a clear bias in this thread in that we are all members of an internet forum, where, by and large, it is impossible NOT to know most of these things (even if you refresh 2+2 just semi-regularly). A lot of people you know IRL - especially ones on the older side who only check the web for Amazon, email, stock prices, etc. - are at an extreme disadvantage. If there's any new bit of gossip, it's in OOT immediately (or some other popular forum). Most people don't have this "luxury," if you will.
That said, it's pretty [censored] infuriating when some douche tells some girls about Saget's sick past and they LOL for minutes over it, and you're like wtf. |
