i don't know about the mcat, so somebody put this score in perspective by telling me the percentile.

[/ QUOTE ]

the score is not off the charts or anything

[/ QUOTE ]

It's damn solid. A 34 on the April test would've put you between 90th and 92.6th percentile.

BTW: Why no Vandy if Duke and Emory are near your family?

Good luck......

As some other posters have noted, having your school paid for by your girlfriend's family may turn out to be a HUGE beat, but good luck with that too....

FWIW, unless you have ambitions about being a high powered academic sort of guy, it really doesn't matter too much where you go. Your residency is a lot more important, and while there is a bit of a "legacy" halo at some programs, it's just not that big a deal. Pick out a place you'd like to live, where the students seem a bit less psychotic than the norm. And don't kill yourself midway thru your second year - it gets better in the spring.

i.e., don't go to JHU if you have another option such as emory.

i did not go to jhu med school, 4 year undergrad, started premed and it was cutthroat as hell. i've heard med school there is worse.

also, i wasn't a huge fan of the city either. just my opinion as someone who lived there 4 years.

Made a 34, should be able to go to pretty much any med school with my GPA and extracurriculars. Bring on the "good god i dont want a donk-n-go player operating on me" type responses.

not so brag worthy.

my bro's friend chris just got his mcat score back. 99.6 percentile. depending on when you took your test, it seems you're between 89-94.

GL w/ that attitude

ummm. Maybe im missing something but did say "I made the best score in the history of the MCAT" or did i say "with my extracurriculars/GPA i should be able to get into pretty much any med school?" Im very proud of your friend for doing better than me. Forgive me if the fact that you know someone smarter than me doesnt ruin this for me, or really mean a [censored] thing to me. If you were as smart as your friend you might have read through the thread and seen me say things like [ QUOTE ]
the real brag is that 3 yrs of work and 4 months of studying are finally coming to fruition

[/ QUOTE ] or [ QUOTE ]
the score was not exactly off the charts

[/ QUOTE ] Maybe your post would register somewhere near the bottom on the scale of "things worth saying" if only 7% of people who take the MCATS were admitted to med school. From now on before i post a brag ill be sure to PM you and see if you have any friends who have done better, which would obviously render my accomplishments meaningless. Maybe you were suggesting that "your bros friend Chris" will be the only student entering medical school this year because he did so well? ZOMG I HOPE ALL MY APPLICATIONS DONT COME BACK STAMPED [ QUOTE ]
DcifrThs's bros friend Chris did better: try again next year

Well, for first time applicants I bet the acceptance rate isn't much over 10%. I don't really remember the data, I thought it was around 30% of applicants eventually get in, but a lot of people end up reapplying. As long as you have a few 'safety schools' then I'm sure you will be fine. You beat me (barely) and I got accepted to my top choice and a few others, but my top choice wasn't Harvard or JHU.

Don't underestimate the luck factor. It really is a crapshoot. I'd recommend applying to at least 7-10 schools. You just never know.

you are correct. i wont be disappointed if i dont get into JHU or Harvard, its just worth a shot. Any of the schools i listed + many others i didnt would be fine. I just dont see the need in pointing out that im not the #1 most qualified candidate in America, which i never claimed to be.

Nah, this is your brag post, say whatever the [censored] you want. I remember how psyched I was when I got my score back. It was about 1% as psyched as I was when I got my first acceptance, and about 3000% as psyched as I am every [censored] day in class. And this is only first year, which is easy compared to M2. [censored] it sucks.
