I was in a game at the Hustler casino a few years ago and got in with this jerk at my table. I guess he was drinking and had prior disputes at the table but nobody stoodup or shut him up,but anyway he was a [censored] jerk. After about 20 minutes of us going back and forth to each other and pissing everybody off at the table, a guy said "I'LL give both of you $100 each if you shut up and play poker". To which I replied to the jerk to make a prop. bet of $500 as to see who spoke first and he agreed. After about 15 minutes of absolute silence from both of us I got up and went to the asian games side of the casino and told my twin brother of the bet and we switched clothes. As he sat down at the poker table he asked the guy if the bet was still on or not because he was tired. The jerk than started going off as to how I lost and wanted his money. I taped him on the back as I was right behind him and as he looked back and saw me the whole table started to die and pretty soon the whole high limit section was in tears. He got up and left the casino p.s. I never got paid.

This is a hindsight moment.

The first time I played poker was with some old college friends who I'd been out of touch with for years. I was into soccer betting at the time and was told: you'll love poker - it's all about value.

So I played a £20 PLHE home game and won reasonably big: partly beginner's luck, partly magic mushrooms, partly natural hand-reading skills.

Well, I was pretty stoked about this and the next night switched some betting money to poker and played $30 PLHE online. Pretty quickly I was up to $100. Piece of pis*, this game. I went downstairs nd informed my wife that she'd need to watch this - it was liable to be addictive. Then I went back upstairs and played on, moving upto $150.

The hand. I'm dealt AA. There is another big stck at the table and I figure he's itching to play back at me. I raise, he pots, I smooth call. Flop is A1010. Bingo. All the money goes in by the river. I hadn't given any thought to what this grinder might be stacking off with. I mean, I've got the nuts, right?

It was quads, obviously. I lost the lot and felt incredibly numb. Looking back, that was the best thing that ever happened to me in poker. From that day forth, I've only bet with the nuts.

Seriously though, I think I've been able to manage bad beats and variance better than many players do when starting out because of that hand.

FWIW, a couple of months later, I folded the big boat on the river and villain showed quads (not sure I'd do this now): all strength is relative until it's absolute.

My finest moments are several but the ones that stand out right now is my first big win. I had just finished a pokerbook and decided i wanted to try what ive learned. i sat on 1-2 with my 300 roll and in that day i worked it up to almost 1900$. after that i realised thati coud make a living on poker

the ones that follows just happend this month... first going from 8K to 71K HU 50-100 with only 26K roll. Then reaching 117K on 50-100. then 80K on 25-50... picking of a bluff with one pair for 2x pott on river in a 35K pott. last betting TPTK on every street (AI on river not improving) for a 43K pott and winning in a 50-100 game.

Not really an achievement, but probably the two most exciting moments were (in cronological order):

27 players left in a party $200+15 multi, I am ~3rd in chips and get it in against the chipleader with KK v. his AA, spiked a K on the river, went on to place 2nd. At the time my online roll was ~$3500.

Tripling up in the wsop ME when I flopped a set of sixes v. AK and AQ on a A62 board.

My finest moment was making the $250 withdrawal that meant I was only playing poker with poker profits from thereon.
