I started out with a couple hundred dollars in the middle of the summer of 04. I grinded it out at 7 card SNG's until I got enough money to play 1/2. After that it was move up when you have 500 BB and don't move back down no matter what. Now, the only bankroll I have to worry about is my emotional bankroll.
Personally, I think the most important idea to learn is to never touch your bankroll. So many times during the first semester back after playing poker I was eating ramen and staying in on weekends because I didn't have 10 dollars for the cover for some party my fraternity would be hosting. I had a few friends who had the potential to play 100/200 by now, but instead they took their bankrolls and spent it on car repairs or bills, and now they don't play poker anymore or play low stakes. If you don't touch your bankroll, you will get a great opportunity to make a ton of money really quickly, but at the cost of your soul. So just be careful. Also, I'd just like to say that those poker players with >$1 million that are investing in stocks and stuff are morons. |

i love bragging too because it is uh inspiring for everyone =) 100 -----> 6 figures in a year. my advice: just study hard on this site and play a lot of hands. also early on live poker helped me roll tremendously, moving from 4 figures to like 20k, foxwoods 1/2 nl did that for me. after that just move up at 20 buyins (i'm a nl player) and don't look back. now i play at games i'm way overrolled for which feels a heck of a lot better than being uncomfortable losing a stack or two.

Wouldn't it be so nice if I could win a huge tourney liek they all did, but hey, life sucks... [/ QUOTE ] if you won a big tourney and jumped into big cash games without much experience, you would very likely be a huge donator. |

It seems like most of the success stories, ZeeJustin, Ozzy_87, Action_Jeff, they all one won huge tournies to get their roll started, and little do you hear about the guys like me who deposit 200 bucks and try to be patient and build up slowly moving up stakes. Hopefully I will be able to sustain the patience and do so. Does that ever work? Wouldn't it be so nice if I could win a huge tourney liek they all did, but hey, life sucks... [/ QUOTE ] ZJ's hit some tournament scores, but he had a decent roll before that just from SNGs and some cash games. |

To imply that ZeeJustin just happened to hit a couple of big tournament scores is pretty silly. As I understand it, he grinded his way up and worked pretty hard at improving his game. Eventually doing quite well in the 200+15 SNG's (8-tabling perhaps) and also heads-up tourneys. Zee ALSO happened to hit a couple other big scores. But these were on top of (and mostly after) he had pretty much proven himself to be quite a solid player. |
