But I am smart enough to defer to Nate, Mr. K, and Berge for their opinion. This is just mine.

Please keep in mind when reading anything I write in this forum that I'm a layman, not an insider like Mr. K and Berge. I'm just trying to address this problem like I would a poker hand, by making the best use of limited information that I can.

Then interpret that lost post by Mr. K please. :-)

OK Sublime, I will vow to stop reading this forum while 6 tabling speeds! (figure better get em in while we can!)

I swear when I read your post the first time, I read it as those were things you said to Senator Kennedy, which would be somewhat problematic if you were looking for his support for our cause.

I apologize for my poor reading comprehension!

So, this realistically has a shot of passing now?

From what I've read, it feels like we're(online poker players) all in with AK suited against two Jacks.

[/ QUOTE ]

We've just flopped a flush draw.

This one?

Not sure there is much in there that would help in this particular situation. As for what might be the best things to be doing right now, I'm not 100% sure. If I were working to oppose the bill, I guess I'd be calling HASC and SASC member offices -- the more the better, starting with the higher ranking members of each. I'd be writing letters to the editor for papers in their districts about how important it is to pass this bill with troops in the field without delay or extraneous add-ons. I might be finding out who the military LAs (the staffers who handle military issues... LA stands for "Legislative Assistant") are in each of the HASC and SASC offices, and get their direct number and e-mail and start pestering them. Ditto for the Committee staffers.

Just a few ideas -- but I am not really in a position to come up with a true strategy here. Coming up with a solid lobbying plan takes time, resources, and energy, and I must admit I've got none of the above. I'll do my best to keep you guys posted, but as I said before, it is moments like these that you get what you pay for in terms of lobbying. Poker players have PPA, and the next 5 days will show whether their lobbying investment (or lack thereof) will pan out. There is no question in my mind that skilled and well connected lobbyists could definitely "win" this battle.

Can't Party and PS just line the pockets of every senator up for re-election, and the key House members - like Microsoft did/does? I really hope the big online poker sites aren't sitting on their hands right now.

No. It is illegal for foreign compaines and citizens to contribute to campaigns, particulary when those businesses are quasi-legal.
