Possible changes at WSOP 2007?

I showed a friend of mine that works for Harrahs in management the tipping threads going on in the WSOP forum and he had some words to say about it. He told me a few of the changes being discussed as possibilites for next year. I am posting this here because this is gossip, not set in stone, and possibly just something that was mentioned and not being discussed in great depth.

Again, this is NOT fact, but more or less gossip at this point in time and this information did not come from me. Source is not being named to protect their job/ect..

Tips will still be allowed, but the talk was to increase the rake a ton so they can make sure to pay well enough to get good dealers in the future and not listen to the constant complaining from the dealers and players."

Hell, like Harrahs ever listened to anything to begin with is what I say. Why not just charge for parking, drinks, seating for the final tables, and so on. Might make them some extra $$ and heck, the people will be there anyways! No, I dont work for Harrahs, wonder if I could sell my ideas. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I also read that the Rio would be removing lots of the tables from the main room and setting up a stadium type of thing in the center. Bleachers all the way around with lots more seating, and showcasing the final 3 tables of the WSOP ME. This would allow tons more spectators to get in there and watch. Those side tournaments didn't get much of a turnout anyways, so it woulnd't hurt to hold them on one side of the room while the final 3 are being played in another more spacious section.

That would change the Main Event from $9,400 + $600 (6.4%) to about $8,700 + $1,300 (14.9%).

There will be quite an outrcry if that happens. I believe the current Main Event rake is already higher than any $10,000 tournament.

There is no point in increasing the rake to pay the dealers so they will be happy. They could end up with 10% of the prize poll through the rake and they would still complain about not getting tips.

They will bitch and blame everybody else for eternity, it's genetic among high school dropouts.

I think a higher rake in order to compensate dealers without tips would be appropriate. The whole purpose of tips is to reward good service, and there is no way to reward the dealers who gave you good service in a tournament, unless you actually seek them out on the side. The "tips economy" just doesn't make sense in the tournament setting unless you are talking about SNGs where one dealer deals the entire tourney.
