uh the realistic viewpoint is it should be raised so the field thins a bit. 4 day 1s make it s-u-c-k for anyone in day 1a who survived. Next year with no increase it will be 5. Since most of the people in the ME have jobs it really, really sucks to have to 4 much less 5 days between playing times especially if you have a small stack. Its not working any more.

Its not working any more. [/ QUOTE ] By this logic, we should have seen the field size shrinking as the event has become steadily longer over the past few years. I'm sure if the ME becomes such a lengthy affair that it begins to effect the event's viability, Harrah's will adapt to meet the needs of the market it caters to. I suspect we're not anywhere near that moment yet, and I point to the steadily growing field as proof. |

If 10k now is a lot cheaper compared to 10k in 1972 but the payout is a bazillion times more wouldnt that be a +EV situation? Where else would you get a 10k tourney with this many participants? The hype over the ME is unsurpassed and I dont think any tourney will ever attain to this level. If you want to raise the buy in to have less people then add on a 25k NL event or whatever but leave the hyped ME cash cow alone.

Let's face it, the ME isn't about who the best poker play is any more, and hasn't been for a long time. Raising it to $15 or $20K isn't going to reduce the lottery aspect of it. Its attraction has everything to do with the lottery aspect of a huge winner, and that's good for poker. Those who want higher buy-in, save your money, practice your Limit and Pot Limit Omaha and Stud, and enter next year's HORSE event. Then your talent can shine. NCAces |

The voting is really getting intresting now! So far, i like the idea of multiple venues handling the day 1(s)

we have the perfect setting now ... the ME which is the public's perception of being important and makes for great television ("hey, did you see the guy who won $12 million bucks the other day"), and the HORSE event which has the buy-in you want which will limit the number of participants, and a structure that reduces the luck and rewards skill and diversity, and will more truly crown the annual champion of poker. The common man's champion will be the ME lottery winner, while the small group of "in the know" poker players will look to the HORSE winner as the true champion. NCAces [/ QUOTE ] Agree 100% |

I can't wait for next year and a whole WEEK of Day 1's! I'll love having 6 days to rest up after surviving Day 1!
But seriously, split the field up into two groups, have 5k players play at the Rio, and 5k play at Caesar's (or whatever). Then go from there. |

Anyone who voted to raise the buyin should be required to play the $50k HORSE event next year. It will be nice to see their dead money donated to The Corporation. [/ QUOTE ] |

A few points:
For all you inflation jockeys out there, I've played 3-6 for 6 years, and if anything I've heard less people complain about how 'cheap' it is. Yes, please for the love of god have multiple venues, and a 20 hour first day if necessary. Anyone who disagrees is free to shout me down as I've never played at the world series. As well, keeping the previous sentence in mind, I'd love 5 days of tourist-loaded side action at the WSOP if they can't manage multiple venues. Tournaments are fantastic not just because of the +EV situations they generate, but the effects the higher variance has on players who enter the side games. Someone who's already a poor player and is making a score and feeling 10 foot tall and bullet proof is going to go on 'happy tilt' and feed you a lot of cash. |
