i love Jamie Gold as the new WSOP World Champion if only because his win serves as a big "F U" to all the people who think that poker should be the exclusive domain of "internet whiz-kids" and "name poker pros" and that anyone who doesn't fall into either category MUST be a know-nothing "donk".

Raymer is such a donk.

if Raymer wasn't already a respected 2p2'er before his win, you don't think this forum would have found reasons to crucify him? i'm sure his looks/weight, reptile glasses, and the fact that he sucked out several times on his way to the championship would have been more than enough fodder for the haters here.

Raymer is generally well liked by almost everyone. I don't think it would have been an issue.

he's of middle-eastern (lebanese) heritage. from what i've seen, most american whites don't consider middle-easterners "white", although i suppose they technically are.

i'd like to believe that you're right. however, i have a differing opinion.

if Gold was a 2p2er, i doubt there would be as much, if any, hating going on.
