The front page of The Lounge is now cluttered with political posts. this is NOT want I wanted when I supported this forum. Is it going to turn into the refuge politics forum now or what? [/ QUOTE ] Dom, the solution is simple... start a good non-politics related thread... |

mods,
Are posters being warned about no-content one-liner list thread answers? Why are the "B0" etc type rules not being enforced? Why are posters like Dom allowed to repeatedly post one-liner no-content responses without any action being taken? I pointed out the cookie thread yesterday. Today I direct you to the greatest TV character thread. I really think it's a problem when Lounge regulars derail a thread w/ great intent like this one had and turn it into a stupid no-content list thread. That's exactly what I don't want to see here and explicitly against the rules as you've created. As you requested earlier, I've notified you regarding the offending posts. |

ElD,
I really don't see a problem with that thread... every post in a thread doesn't have to be an essay in order for it to be interesting... Its also worth mentioning that there are efforts going on "behind the scenes" to improve content in the forum... so your thoughts are appreciated. |

Sniper,
The vast majority of responses in that thread have little to no content beyond just a one-liner (or picture) list answer. Here's a suggestion for the mods that would drastically improve content here. When posters post an answer like that, DELETE THEIR POST and give them a warning/explanation why. If they do it again, start them on the punishment process laid out in the rules. If this were done, you'd see a dramatic increase in the level of thoughtfulness and quality of posts. Also, I'd suggest you ask your regulars to lead by example. Katy's post in the cookie thread was a great example of trying to make a thread really good for TLDR. Dom's posts in list threads aren't. |

El D.
Thanks for the suggestion. We are reasonably strict on threads that start as low content, but we have no intention of trying to micromanage threads that degenerate into one-liners at a post-by-post level. Heinous posts will of course be deleted, and we are indeed focusing efforts on political threads given that Mason specifically wants them watched carefully to stay respectful, but other than that, if a post starts off good, OR even if it doesn't start off great and we can forsee potential for it (like the cookie thread, say), I don't see the need to get nitty about it. If it becomes one-liner after one-liner, a lock will suffice. You will notice, however, we do interject and either by giving direction or actually adding content, we do try and raise the level of some threads. And sometimes a little encouragement brings some awesome content! (eg your comment in the cookie thread, and Katy's response) This isn't the Oxford Debating Society, and we are also trying to set a relaxed, thoughtful tone that suits the more adult members of 2+2, but without the need to strip out any sense of fun or non-intellectual pleasure. Constantly locking, deleting and warning posters will definitely wreck that vibe. In all discussion there is the ebb and flow of talk, sometimes leading to fast answers. That's life. We are also trying to set a tone and balance here to suggest it is a thoughtful, mature place, and don't particularly wish to nanny or scold posters constantly. Hope this helps you out, but if you really don't like certain threads in here, just don't continue to read them. I'd also like to point out several posters in ATF have already commented that this forum is overmodded already, so I hope you appreciate your view it is undermodded is just one in a whole spectrum of many viewpoints on how this forum works - and I hope for the majority of posters that come here, they feel the balance is about right. I hope this helps out, but I'd be interested to hear if any other posters agree with the approach we currently apply (which is pretty much how it's been since opening), or with the approach El Diablo is advocating (or some other variant). thanks db |

db,
I am perfectly fine if you lock the threads. That is definitely another way to get the point across. As for your suggestion to not read the threads, that's exactly what I do when they become stupid list threads. However, when someone like Phoenix starts what is intended to be a really interesting TLDR thread and posters like Dom completely derail it by turning it into a list thread, I find that annoying. |

I'm with El Diablo FWIW. I started that thread partially to see if a "loungish" thread could actually work, and I was disappointed with how it turned out, at least at first. I don't really care, but if I wanted a picture thread I could have gotten 5 times as many responses in OOT.

Serious question,
Since the Lounge is now the new Politics forum, how long before [censored] is made a mod of this forum by Mason Malmuth? |
