The problem is that there's about 130 more that play tomorrow. It could also mean they do 5 levels with no dinner break today/tomorrow.

[ QUOTE ]
Annie Duke makes an interesting point there, but is there anything that can actually be done about it? They can't prevent people playing on the 2nd day from knowing the results, so they could perhaps cap the day at playing down to 500 or 600 players, then do the same thing on day 2b. They certainly can't play down to the money while the field is still split, so it sounds likely they'll have to end the day early.

[/ QUOTE ]

They can't play down to the same number of players each day b/c the most important factor in keeping things fair is that everyone sees the same amount of time per blind level... they can't allow mismatched endpoints.

2Bers clearly have an advantage - I think the only way to minimize it is to play down to like 600 (decently far from the money) and then match the amount of time tomorrow.

If they have A play down to 500 and 450 or something, tomorrow will be a huge stallfest at the end and I bet something like 600 Bers make Day 3. It'll still be a problem but keeping it as far from the $ as possible should minimize it.

The stalling at the end of Day 1 (last 5/10 minutes to avoid paying blinds) was pathetic, btw.

Yea, much worse than getting your pocket pair beaten by a 3-outer on the flop.

I don't see this as a tough way to lose at all. We don't know the details, but perhaps if Shaniac wouldn't of pissed the guy off earlier, he would of picked up the small pot here instead of getting busted.

Maintaining a degree of FE is key if you're going to make a run at this damn thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

OK I really wasn't trying to get into a competition about which is the worst way to get outdrawn. So, you're welcome to your tone and your opinion.

The Shaniac story from Pocket Fives:

[ QUOTE ]
Meanwhile, we caught a buzz about something going on at Shaniac's table. Apparently, Shane moved all in and one of his opponents said "I called that all in," as if to say "I knew you were going to do that." Shane wanted it to be ruled a call, but the floor ruled that the play had not verbally committed to a call. I wasn't there to see it, but I heard that the two have been exchanging quite a few words since then, words that aren't likely to make the TV broadcast.

[/ QUOTE ]

And Rizen news:

[ QUOTE ]
He's at 95,000 chips and is the big stack by far at his table. He hasn't really been looked up all day and has been actively picking up pots using his stack. Most on his table have around 25,000 to 30,000. Keep it up, Rizen!

Meanwhile, his family is out exploring the Hoover Dam. "I definitely did not want to go do that," said Rizen.

Here's an update, also from Wicked Chops Poker:

[ QUOTE ]
We ran into Brian Balsbough and one of the ESPN producers who explained that the announcement that got Annie all riled up wasn't entirely accurate, which is another way of saying it wasn't true. What the announcer was trying to say is that they were now down to half the tables in the entire room, which would be half the field if they had actually started with all the tables being used, which wasn't the case, which is why it wasn't accurate, which is why we have to use all these which's. So rather than being down to under 900 when that announcement was made they were really more like at 1100. According to ESPN, the plan now is to play down to 500 players or play 6 levels, which ever occurs first.

[/ QUOTE ]

Card Player has the number left at around 830, it seems Annie was getting upset earlier than I thought.

Annie seems entirely too high-strung.

Well, of course. I'm sure they wouldn't try to get the days played down to the same number of players; they'd just adjust the amount of time played so they can get to close to 1400 (or whatever) as possible. I imagine they will play to 500, see how much time that took, and then play 2B for the same amount of time.

Given Harrah's history, I can't blame her.

I had a problem w/ Harrahs on day 1A. It's not just that they mess up, it's how they act when they mess up. It's just unbelievable, they act like you've done something wrong. They're like talking to a wall. Maybe Annie Duke is high strung but Harrah's is just miserable.

busto:

start day, 53k

first hand, KK, get it all in for 33k against AK. door card A, doh.

20k.

one orbit later, AA, raise to 3250, button calls, with 12k behind. flop 2 5 6, i check call his push, he has 22.

4.5k.

two orbits later or so, a short stack on my right with 3.5k pushes, i overpush from the co with AQ. he has K7. flop 7 turn K river no gutshot.

1k.

AA > A6

3k.

KQ > A2

5k.

KJc > 88

10k.

those hands happened in some order, but i don't remember which.

sat around with around 10k or so for a long time, got down to 6k or so at some point, then

TT > AK

14.5k.

then treaded water for a long time, stealing every once in a while, though not many spots, finally 400/800 a100, push K5h from co with 11.5k, bb calls 88.

flop 5 3 2 one heart, turn 6h, river Td, ciao.

gg dan.

edit, ps: the guy who was on my left on both my tables, WeiKai Chang, is a very, very good player, who i just found out got 2nd at the WSOP circuit event that gigabet won.
