Stop being an ass before you kill yourself or someone else. There are plenty other ways to get an adrenaline rush.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why is the speed limit the fastest safe speed? That is after all the under lying assumption here. Maybe the speed limit should be 10 mph everywhere. THINK OF HOW MANY LIVES IT WOULD SAVE! oh oh or we could all walk. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're such an ass for going more then 10 mph or even diving a car. I demand you stop this boorish behavior immediately before you kill yourself or someone else. Shame on YOU!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you trying to say that higher speeds do not result in higher risk? Studies have shown the correlation between accidents and speed is roughly the same as blood alcohol levels.

Also, the speed limit is never the "fastest safe speed" for that road. The speed limit is usually set to 10 under the "fastest safe speed" as well as a number of other factors (schools, pedestrian areas, shoulders, medians etc...)

Sorry if you were trying to be funny. I guess I didn't get the joke.

Then why do we go 55 on the highway instead of 10? 10 is safer then 55. So it's wrong to go 55 instead of 10?

I as deny that speed is the determining factor in most accidents were speed is blamed. Diving is a skill. Some people are much better at it then others. Good drives anticipate changes in conditions and react quickly with good judgment. Those drivers can drive much faster then people who exercise poor judgment or impair their ability to drive with distractions or self medication.

The fastest safe speed is relative to the person's driving skill and conditions. Neither of which can be determined from a state capital or Washington DC.

So are you arguing it is safer to set no limits than impose arbitary ones on citizens of a state?

I don't believe that laws should be made for the sole purpose of keeping people safe. I have the right to do unsafe things. Until the time that I infringe on someone else’s right to drive down the road in relative safety, the state should take no part. If a cop sees someone driving in a way that any reasonable person would conclude is dangerous to others then they should be stopped and the punishment should be more severe then it is for a speeding. If you cause an accident because of your recklessness, you should go to jail. If you hurt someone, you should go to jail for a long time. Will this system be safer? Probably not, but I'd rather be free then safe.

Leader, I only respond and debate with people who prove that they are capable of debating on a rational adult skill level. I spent almost 5 years on a political debate msg. board as one of the top posters, so I've been thru my fair share of arguments. I took debate in high school and understand how it works. When you realize you are debating an irrational and illogical person you don't waste your time. I'm a fairly quick learner.

Glad to see you've accessed me so quickly.

Then we have something in common. I spent 3-4 years hardening my teeth on a military and political board. I stopped at the beginning of the year because of other commitments, but it was fun.

Sorry that doesn't impress me. My father graduated from Cal with a degree in debate. He’s a lefty and I’m quite the opposite. I hold my ground though.

All I ask is that if you want me to agree with you or to convince others that I'm wrong, you prove me wrong. All I've seen so far are ad hominem attacks and straw men that cover your emotional argument.

i'm sorry, this is just really funny. how on earth does that mean anything at all. the absolute stupidest most ignorant people on the face of the planet populate internet political debate forums. not to say that you're one of them, but five years of arguing with morons is not exactly something to stick on your intellectual resume.

p.s. a little hyperbolic with all the adjectives like "most", i know, but pretty much true.

That largely depends on the forum. Not every forum is like say the 2+2 political forum.

What would the world be like if everyone decided to pick and choose which laws they felt were "reasonable" and worth obeying?

Sorry, I'm not arguing to defend my position of actually obeying the law.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not much different than it is now. Pretty much everybody except for a small minority self-righteous nits like you does pick and chosse which laws they obey.

Unfortunately, with many issues "proving" a position wrong is simply impossible.
