So, I tried the deep stacked $1 Pot Limit, buying in for $1000. The rake is awful as discussed. There are some really bad players and it's cool when you get up against them deep stacked. However, it's pretty rare that you both have hands good enough to really take advantage of the deepness, so I'm not sure if that makes up for the evil rake. This is the only decent hand I got :

Pot Limit Hold'em Ring Game (6 max) , 4 players
Blinds : $0.50/$1

Stacks:
UTG : $100
Button : $22.50
SB : $242.05
Hero : $1074.30

Pre-flop: (4 players) Hero is BB with 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
UTG posts.
UTG checks, Button folds, SB limps, Hero raises to $4, UTG folds, SB calls.

Flop: 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($9, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero checks.

Turn: 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($9, 2 players)
SB bets $4, Hero raises to $19, SB calls ($15).

River: 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($47, 2 players)
SB bets $25, Hero raises to $98, SB calls ($73).

Results: (final pot $243)
SB wins $240.50 with 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (Straight)
Hero shows 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (Trips)

I dunno, river is meh, I could've raised a bit less, but he was super awful and would've paid off with any two pair for sure.

Just lost $400 in live play, my biggest loss in live poker. duhhhh. 1/2 NL stakes.

just wasnt my night i guess. Lost my first $150 when it was a straddled pot (a dead straddle, as the player went all in blind) for $15. my friend who is known to 'protect' a player with ATC moves all in. I look down at A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and say GAMBOOLLLLLLLLLL. Turns out my friend had KK this time, ouch. interestingly enough, the straddled player had KJ[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and three spades came by the river. doh.

Then i lost my second $100 buyin when on semi tilt with a pair of 8s on a 9 8 2 board. doh.

third and final buyin of $150, i was doing fine, moving up to about $220 in a short amount of time (we were playing short handed by now, yay).

I get 23o in the bb and check, flop comes 2 3 7r. maniac leads, i raise to $35, MP cold calls. turn comes 8 and i push the remainder of his stack in, he has 76s and catches a 6 on the river.

final hand, after a slow grind down comes quick. I had KJ[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img][img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and raise with $80 behind. maniac calls, board comes T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] x x. check/check. turn comes Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] he leads, i push, he calls with AJo high and i fail to improve.

doh.

First hand of the session. Opponent is somewhat tight, but still very fishy. He's probably seen me be aggressive before, but I've never reraised a raise + a caller with complete air. I truly don't get his flop push, but meh. Earned a lot of Sklansky bucks on this one.

The best thing of the hand is that I didn't tilt afterwards. I'm simply continuing my session. My heart's beating a bit faster than usual, but I feel like I'm still playing good poker. This is a good sign.

You're probably on tilt and just don't realize it because you havent had any hands to [censored] up yet, thats what happens to me anyway.

That's an excellent point. Often I'll take a sick beat and think I'm handling it fine, but that's just because my decisions were easy. Then you get TPTK and someone check-raises and you go broke to their set and you realize you really were tilted. D'oh!

Oh yes, that has happened to me a few times too. But no, I made correct decisions afterwards. I got check-raised twice, and I actually laid it down twice. Once it was just a c-bet, so that one was easy, but I had TP2K the next one, that one was harder.

The next one may seem a little weird to those that don't play 10NL, but I'm convinced it was the correct play. At one point, I got AKo in the SB. Two limpers, so I make it 6xBB. The BB, who had just sat down, reraised all-in (18xBB). I called because I put his range on something like 99+,AK,AQ, which I'm a coinflip against, and I was getting 2 to 1. His range was actually wider... he showed QJo. Obviously he made the straight. But I complimented him!

*feeling good about myself*
