I feel the need to bring a little levelheadedness to this thread. Those of you projecting 2 bracelets a year for Madsen are a little off.

The fact of the matter is that:
1) Madsen did not play all of the events at the start of the WSOP, due to bankroll restrictions.
2) There are still several events left!
3) Variance. I think it's completely possible that, if not for bad luck, he would have won the Pot-Limit Omaha title. If not for variance, he'd likely be a 3-time bracelet winner now!

Add all that up, and I think it's conservative to project Madsen's career at something like 2.5-3 bracelets per year. This could, of course, be amended upwards if the WSOP continues to expand the number of events. Remember - he's a young man and has the stamina to play expertly day after day!

great post, i hadn't even considered many of those points. this is just very very insightful.

one thing we also have somewhat overlooked is how he will dominate future WPT, USPC, and other poker events. He has 2 bracelets within 1 month. Bracelets aren't the only things that matter, and if he continues this 2 championship/month domination, he will be an unstoppable force.

Most of this list is ridiculous. Any vote not for Hellmuth, Brunson, or Chan is a wasted vote IMO. The other guys just haven't won nearly as many or for as long.

You should read the thread, there are some really powerful arguments for the players listed, and some needed adendums.

And remember, people have won back-to-back WSOP's before and do they have 50 bracelets yet?

[/ QUOTE ]

wtf this is obviously not the same.

madsen did it within ONE MONTH of having turned 21. 2 bracelets every world series translates to way more than 50. none of those other pros started that young. the kid is a genius and he is going far. far!

I'm not so sure I agree.

After keeping up this pace for even as little as a few years, he's going to be unbelievably wealthy. Factor the supplemental income from the inevitable endorsements, what's to stop him from retiring at 25? 23?

Basically, I think it's wrong to assume he will dominate for the next ten years just because he can dominate for the next ten years. And, I may be dead wrong, but I'm guessing he'll need at least 10 more years to get to 50.

P,

Some very good points there, but it's important to note that this is Jeff's first WSOP. So, it is reasonable to assume that if he wins 4 bracelets this year, 6-8 bracelets next year is quite likely. Taking that into account, he could hit 50 quite fast.

Jeff Madsen is the greatest human being to ever walk the planet. After winning this year's main event, he will be crowned King of the World. It will be discovered that he is not human, but rather a rare form of cyborg. Chaos will reign.
