Hand 2 - that's a fairly standard Chip-n-fish sandwich. Described in detail in Phil Gordon's book and on his website... So you have no FE against anyone paying attention to such things as books and websites.

Maybe you suceed in getting HU, but the pot odds don't compensate you for being a 5-3 dog against over cards and a 9-2 dog against an over pair. I find resteals, limper pwns, and squeeze plays work best when the push is atleast twice the size of the pot. Then people will be reluctant to put in a most of their chips against what could be AK/QQ or something. People may not credit you with the audacity to make a big semibluff. I also like to have a little better hand to semibluff with or some kind of read. This play is ridiculous. You have junk hand. Several people have hands that they like. There are no reasonable plays to make. Fold. You don't even have a stack size to resteal at one raiser, much less a raiser and callers. If you want to make a semibluff move, push at limpers, or open push from late position. |

[/ QUOTE ] The idea here is that the original raiser will (hopefully) re-raise to isolate and the others may likely fold. Of course, the move is much better when the connectors are suited. And once again - I'm not advocating making this play here - I'm jst saying that it's been publisized enough for people to be quite aware of it. |

On hand 2, there is EV and there is also risk. If you had a situation where you are getting paid 3.01 to 1 and will win 25% of the time, do you want to take it? You are risking everything for a small amount of expected value.
The question is whether what you think your chances are of having a better investment? Unless my stack is small and the blind are about to kill me, I rarely want to risk it with a 25% chance of winning. |

Some of this may be restatement, but I wanted to get out why open pushing in hand 1 seems bad.
Open pushing hand 1 seems very bad because you're only getting called by a K (AK/KQ/KJ seem somewhat likely) . . . . It allows the LP player to fold all the middle pair hands and call with all the TP hands . . . in other words allow him to play absolutely correctly. Check/push to a bet from the LP player will allow you to snap off position bets and middle pairs (maybe even suck in middle pairs), while still getting broke against the TP hands. Even if MP checks KQ/KJ to trap the late position player, LP bets, you push, MP calls . . . at least there's more $$ in the pot when you do spike a Q on the turn or river as opposed to open pushing . . . Hand 2 is an easy fold. With more chips, this might be the spot for a play, but you're just too short to create any FE. . . |

Hand 1 is a clear check/evaluate. If it goes bet/call before it even gets back to you, easy fold. If the bet comes from EP, then my read is pretty important, but I'm probably folding. If the bet comes from the last person to act, then unless he is a rock, I'm probably CRing all-in. Hand 2: I don't really like a push here. Anyone who calls will be getting better than 2:1, and this should be an easy call for lots of hands that destroy your range. [/ QUOTE ] this said all I was gonna say. and yeah, push when the button bets. |
