He had been with the Venetian for 7 years. I seriously doubt he left the company, unless..... Should not be hard to find out where/why he left the department.

Hi Johnny: First off you should check with Venetian management to find out what exactly is happening. But cardrooms that have these freeroll type promotions in my opinion are making a big mistake. The problem is that they tend to attract an undesirable element. Now of course this isn't the case with you, but if they go ahead and allow some of their best casino customers to sit in the freeroll tournament where you may have some undesirable people sitting right next to them, it would not have a positive effect. Of course, if the rumor that you have heard is not accurate, then this previous comment won't apply. So again I suggest you talk to Venetian Cardroom management to get an answer. Best wishes, Mason [/ QUOTE ] First off Lee had already admitted that there were going to be some people allowed into the tournament who did not qualify by their hours. There was some sort of radio promotion. Second, Have you ever heard of a promotion of this type where people didn't get exceptions made. You know what happens, some executive host calls down to the poker room gets some poker room manager (who is considered lower on the casino food chain than Mr. Executive Host) and says Mr. BigSpender plays $50K per hand Baccarat and is a very valuable customer and he has asked that he be allowed to play in threeroll even though he hardly ever plays poker here (and we would prefer that he spends his gambling time at the Baccarat Table anyway). Mr. BigSpender gets entered. You don't really expect Venetian Cradroom Managment is going to admit this? theye are going to back date computer entries and there list will show the player as having qualified. Remember a few years ago the Venetian got caught rigging a promotional drawing so that a VIP would win. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] you should be jumping for joy playing against players from blackjack, craps, and other games. this is what poker tables need. quit your complaining and destroy the tourney. [/ QUOTE ] Ehh, no. With a choice between a freeroll for, say, 50 poker players or a freeroll for 50 poker players + 50 house game players, no-one in their right mind would choose tha later. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, I would choose the latter rather than the former. DEAD MONEY!!!!! Seriously, I rather play against 99 people where 50 of them have no clue than 49 people who have a clue. Imagine if you're at a table where you have 7-8 of the no clue people at your table. [/ QUOTE ] You must be reading the question wrong. In both cases (50 or 100 players) the prize pool is the same. [/ QUOTE ] Actually not. Since the Venetian has saidthat in the event they don't have 200 qualifiers the pool will be reduced. Assuming the pool will be reduced propotionally then 100 players would have a larger prize pool than 50 players. However if we assume that they will hit the 200 mark then we would agree that we would rather play against 200 poker players than 200 poker players +50 other players. |

Very good post. I've known at least one LA based casino which added players when the number of people expected to qualify fell short of the projected number, at the last moment all sorts of "buddies" were let in. This was described in detail on the newsgroup RGP, but I can't find the post/thread right now.
That said, I do think the Venetian poker promotions should be directed towards people who stay in the rooms rather than the in town grinders/regulars. Get them in and the grinders/regulars will follow. ~ Rick |

defer to Kathy Raymond in regards to staffing. I do believe that her choices for upcoming personnel will be good. Keep in mind that when she came to the Venetian poker room most of the personnel was already in place. It is absolutely within her right to make changes as she sees fit. [/ QUOTE ] Not in the manner or in the methods she used to do so. That's all I can say. |

How about everyone waits to see how great a Free $ 500,000 Freeroll tournament is, then talk about it. Most people sound like 12 year old little boys complaining about a Free Tournament that is still 2 months away. If anything happens at the tournament you dont like, then express your feelings. Dont trash something just because you heard some rumors. These are probably the same people who dont tip dealers. I know, I know... the dealers told you to go " all in" with you Ace - Queen. If it wasnt for the dealers, there would be no " Live " games. Players need Dealers, and Dealers need Players. How would you like it if your " boss" forget your paycheck this Friday and said that he didnt like the work you did last week. But, maybe if you work really hard and suck up to him even more, maybe he'll remember to pay you next time. For Goodness sakes, give the Dealers a dollar. If you cant overcome that, then maybe you should play Online.

Thank you " DayTripping." I just get so annoyed reading these posts. Most of the people want, want, want... They feel the casinos owe them so much. They want comps, they want the best dealers the game has ever seen, they want the best games with people who dump money to them, they want cocktail waitress who are hot and never slow, they want " Freeroll Tournaments" in which the " House doesnt take a dollar to pay for the tournament," but yet they want to dictate when and how and why the tournament will be played. They want Floormen who fly around like Superman. They want, want, want.... But yet they win a pot, and they cant give the Dealer one dollar. If I see any of these people at a game at the Venetian and they dont tip, I will make sure I give the Dealer 2 dollars next time, and ill be sure everyone at my table knows that the extra dollar was for the " Pro " who cant find it in his budget to tip a dollar because he was too busy gettting his free comp from the floorman to play a hand to make any money.
