The bill won't stop you from gambling online if you really want to. You won't get thrown in jail for gambling online if this bill passes. Now, it will certainly hurt the quality of the games (either for quite some time or permanently), but it won't "end online poker" at all. It will be a bigger pain in the neck to get money in and out of the sites, but it won't be impossible. There are many other countries besides America, so the games won't die, but they will certainly decrease in quality/numbers.

And we want to quality of games to improve. That means we want americans with large disposable incomes to play online poker as much as possible. We want them to see lots of advertising and we want it to be easy for them to open accounts and to get money there. No hurdles. No stigma. Easy access. Who cares if dedicated players can still play? Loose action is what we want. Fish. Casual players. Gamblers.

I've heard the argument that this is to stop those people with no self control from spirraling into debt from the evil temptation of "gambling". However, more people get into serious debt simply by spending more than they earn - perhaps they should ban credit card companies processing transactions from retail outlets.

If they really want to stop addiction to online poker, there is a simpler solution - make everyone play on Paradise or Pacific software.

Yep. Absolutely. But there will still be fish from other countries and gambling addicts around that will make the games profitable imo. However, will they be nearly as good if this bill pasts? Of course not. Do I want the bill to pass? No way. But the bill certainly won't "end online poker" is my main point.

This bill has me worried, only in that they're going after US folks who work in the poker industry it looks like.
