Point Edward 5/10, main table. The table is filled with 7 or 8 regulars consistently begging for additional seats to be filled, and taking walks fairly often. Tonight was the first time I've seen the fourth man walking rule invoked. Suffice to say that this was a painfully slow game.
Anyway, old regular Roger asks the waitress to deliver a Stella to Jerry. He spots her bringing a Sterling to the wrong person and causes a big fuss. The dealer, knowing exactly who Jerry actually is, tries to get the waitress to take the beer to the right person. After wasting a whole bunch of everybody's time, the waitress ends up leaving the beer with Roger for him to deal with it himself. Roger plays out the current hand from the BB and decides to miss his SB to deliver the beer to Jerry. He returns two orbits later and comes back on his BB. Nit across the table demands that he surrender his SB. Dealer demands that he surrender his SB. Roger says he doesn't have to and the floor is called. Floor says that Roger doesn't have to surrender. Nit gets annoyed and, for the first time I have ever seen, calls the pit boss. No hands are dealt while we wait for the pit. Finally, she comes over and explains that Roger does not have to surrender. Action finally continues at its painfully slow pace. Does Roger have to surrender the SB? |

Not at all. His missed the round that would have required him to post it. As he is coming directly into the BB, there is nothing for him to post, period.

He returns two orbits later [/ QUOTE ] enough said right there. He's now missed the bb/sb two more times. BB always takes precedence over missing the SB. He doesn't have to post bb/sb and then sb again. |

If he's coming in on his BB he only ever has to post his BB, because he's going to have to post his SB next hand. If he comes in at any other point during the first 8 hands after he missed his SB he has to post his dead small blind. If he comes in later at any point where he can legally come in that is not the big blind he has to post and surrendor.

The floor made the ruling and the pit boss backed it up. Our opinions don't matter. But I agree, I ain't never played nowhere that you have to post the SB if you are coming in on the BB after having missed a BB+SB. Doesn't matter whether you come in on the next BB or 5 rounds later--wait for the BB and you get to come in for just the cost of the BB. |

Sounds like a fun game. Just like Dante's Fourth Circle.

If he had returned one hand later than he did (ie if he missed exactly 1 orbit or exactly 2 orbits and came back right at his SB instead of his BB) would he be allowed to continue playing immediately without any extra posting?

[/ QUOTE ] No, because you can't come into a game in the Small Blind. In this case he would have to wait until the button passed him and then post dead (BB and SB). |
