Oh my god, you people drive me crazy.
I'm not all into "owning" living beings, but the comment about not owning cats was more of a joke about cats' personalities than about my feelings about ownership and property rights... |

I'm quite certain under our laws, we all own our pets.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] "My cats" does not imply ownership. Just like "my friends" and "my children" and "my neighborhood" doesn't. [/ QUOTE ] Paluka, I hope you don't think I'm that dumb. [/ QUOTE ] apparently i am. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not going to get into a linguistics debate, I just meant to say that I knew Elaine's did not mean that she now owned the cats. [/ QUOTE ] aha! now she admits she does own them. |

They grow it like stem cells sort of, and make it in petri dishes. [/ QUOTE ] Mmmm, a petri dish! Just how I like my flesh served! BTW how would I be able to order a petri dish steak "bloody" if there's no actual blood? |

[ QUOTE ]
Meat-eaters must participate in the killing of animals (directly or indirectly). This is NOT the same as saying that vegetarians do not participate in the killing of animals. [/ QUOTE ] But HIS point was that his uncle is a vegetarian and doesnt participate in this killing but at the same suports the right of others to eat meat. He was commenting that his uncle's viewpoint on meat is similar to your abortion viewpoint: you havent taken part in it, but feel others have the right to do so. Basically, I *think* his major point is: why is it not enough to simply not eat meat yourself? Why must you also try to impose your morals on others? Also, [ QUOTE ] I gather you think it acceptable to eat free-range chicken, cow, or pig but not dog or cat. [/ QUOTE ] just to clarify, I dont eat dog/cat because I have no desire to. Not for any moral reasons. I have no reason to believe that they taste good, hence I dont eat them. If people with similar taste to mine tried very hard to convince me that one of these animals tasted good, Id try it. The only animal that im 100% against eating on moral grounds is human. Primate relatives are in a grey area, and I have my doubts that I could ever be convinced to eat them. |
