i'm at 6, but this is how it really is:

[ QUOTE ]
this i call the "in too deep" stage. player now dislikes poker immensely. but he realizes that making money will never be so easy, so he has no choice but to keep playing. player tries to force in the hands each month but barely can get in 20-25k hands a month... each time he logs on he wants to log off and looks for excuses to not play

Looks pretty good except that I skipped stage 4.

[/ QUOTE ]
Seriously. Let's go back to stage 3 and try again.

[/ QUOTE ]

you're lucky evan. you ran bad enough that you got discouraged and went the job route. i'd trade places with you right now in a heartbeat. you stalled in stage 3 but you can choose to keep going if you wish

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi Josh. If you want, I have a job for you in Cleveland in like two months. Maybe one in NY, but that means you have to help me find a job in NY.

[/ QUOTE ]
How come you never offered to take me to Cleveland?

[/ QUOTE ]

Diablo and I figured out what it would take you to move. You're too expensive.

[/ QUOTE ]
Hahahaha, well played.

this post is so accurate it's disturbing. i was in stage 6, then got sick of limit hold em and moved to NL. now i'm back to stage 3. i'm loving the challenge of learning a new game though, hopefully i don't get hit by stage 6 and 7 again. i fear i will though.

he realizes that he will regret every second he didn't spend playing poker, so he is now forced to play everyday, as much as possible. once the player reaches this stage he is trapped.

[/ QUOTE ]
pretty accurate for anyone that's making good money whether its $100,$200 or $500 an hour ..could be much lower dollar amounts for many players..either way you are right about the concept of feeling trapped.

On feeling trapped:I've planned 7 weeks of vacation this year away from poker already had 3-4 weeks off total this year-you need to force youself to take breaks.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this thread is [censored]. I can get paid $400 an hour to play a damned video game, or I can relax and do any other interesting/enjoyable thing I can think of since I have more money collecting dust in my Party account than the average American makes in three years. Woe is me!

there is also an alternate stage 6 where you dislike poker immensely and play only the minimum hours to keep yourself alive and therefore wind up playing the same stakes for 3 years and spend the rest of your time on oot.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is exactly where I am.
