you can turn it in to your homeowners insurance and maybe you are covered. but i would call her home and tell her parents if you dont get paid immediately you are going to press charges for your theft as a felony.
i bet they will mail a check that day if she was involved in any way which is likely. although she herself probably wasnt the actual thief.
police will only follow up if you call the detective in charge every single day and ask for any new info on the case. then it becomes less work to do their job than deal with you.

Ray,

Is there really any chance that it would work? It just seems like her parents would blow me off. If this is a felony, why wouldn't the police do anything about it? It seems like it's she's getting off so easy just because the police found the car. FWIW my roommate doesn't want me to call her or pursue this any further.
