You are going to get 500 replies about why you should never check the flop for some reason. I like your line depending on the last hundred hands of course, I would check and call the turn. [/ QUOTE ] Then what's your plan for the riv? |

For a club it really depends on recent history, either c/c or c/f I don't like a c/r ever except maybe on the Kc. For a blank, again depends leaning towards c/f if he's really nitty as originally described, for an unknown I'd tend towards c/c though. |

bet the turn [/ QUOTE ] I like this, but what's the plan for the river if he just calls? The more I think about it the less a move seems likely but what's the best way to avoid being moved off by a worse hand on the river? Is there one? |

Can't see folding the river after playing it so passive post flop. Against one opponent I think check the flop is marginal, possibly +EV if you can induce a bluff, but multiway it is probably by far the best play. So FWIW I think flop is fine, turn is probably a bet, and as played you need to bet the river. But as played folding the river would be wild IMO...

Ansky,
As others have said, you need to bet that turn. On the turn the pot is around $1300 and he has 2K left. I would bet $700 and see what happened. If he raises you are probably beat, and if he calls then most likely the same as well, since he is committing his stack by such a call most likely. You shouldn't let another club fall cheap, even though you wouldn't normally want to run off a weak A if he puts you on one yourself or KK. So a bet of around 1/2 the pot puts him to the test, while allowing you to not necessarily feel committed to doubling him up when he has a Q or just made a flush. I like the c/c on the flop to induce a bluff or worse hand to bet, but a viable alternative might have been to c/r to 1K and see if he wants to play a big pot, in which case you probably don't. And an alternative on the turn as played on the flop would be just to push, hopefully folding out a splitting AK with no club and charging the max for something like AxJc to continue to play and draw out on the flush, and to stop any river bluffs. While I wouldn't take this line often, I might occasionally with villain's stack size both with your particular hand and with KK to try to fold out a weak A. |
